I don't know why one has not been in place before now? Living in Las Vegas is like living on an island with nothing around it. I-15 is packed with traffic every weekend and holidays, forget it. If there were a high speed train running between LA and Las Vegas it would save time and money. High speed rail system connecting all major cities, sweet.

"If you think about the Midwest, think about right here, what we've got is all kind of towns that we could connect," Obama said. "All of these cities are, they basically take in the air about 45 minutes to an hour to fly."

"But by the time you get to the airport," Obama continued, "take off your shoes, get to the terminal, realize that your flight's been delayed two hours, go pay $10 for a cup of coffee, and a sandwich for another $10, come back, you get on the plane, you're sitting on the tarmac for another 25 minutes, you finally take off, you're circling above the city for another half hour, when you land they can't find your luggage, and then you get to where you're going -- by the time it's all done it's a five-hour trip! …So the time is right now for us to start thinking about high-speed rail as an alternative to air transportation, connecting all these cities and think about what a great project that would be in terms of rebuilding America." -Barack Obama.

No wonder the Euros loved him -- he wants to turn America into socialist Europe.

Friends and I have talked about a bullet train between LA/LV for 10 years, it would be a cash cow.

I wonder how he will pay for this, as we're running huge deficits now.

BTW I am not quite sure if its a good idea or not because of the size of the US. In Europe its worth it because the countries are much smaller.

But between big cities that are somewhat close by could be a good idea, no?

Like Dal-Hou. Or in the East. Starting from Boston all the way down to Mia

Just think, a trip from LA to Miami, running at over 200+mph. You hookup the big cities first and in time each state will have it's own system to smaller cities. In 100 years there won't be a place you can't go by train.

Anybody know how we're going to pay for this? Or will we just be adding more debt?

As the population grows more stuff has to be built anyways. So some of that money would be spent on the railway system.

But anything that would cut into the profits of Big Oil and Big Auto the people on the wrong... I mean right, will be brainwashed into hating

Or, anything that will devalue the dollar and run up the debt I'll hate.

It wont be free to use, so it will be paid back in time

If there is ALWAYS money for bailouts and handouts, why cant they find or just print more money for this purpose

I mean what is the difference between being 15 trillion in debt (we WILL be there by the time next prez- whoever that might be- leaves office) as opposed to , say, 16 trillion in debt???

Well then you might want to consider leaving the country, because once social security starts running a deficit, they wont have a choice but to print, print, print

Might want to start investing in stocks that are involved in the cotton business because Uncle Sammy will want all the cotton it can get its hands on:sad3: A pair Levi's will soon be more valuable that an 1 oz of gold:smoking:

We are definatly behind in some areas this is one of them.

Our wireless network and internet is pretty nice and fast, but it's nothing compared to some other countrys like Japan.

With capitalism you have to take the good with the bad...something that's good for a society may not me utilized because it may not be profitable.

But if something is profitable you will get more than you ever asked for regardless of it's affect on society as a whole. Think Reality TV and Prescription Drug advertisements

Who built the roads and highways? Government? I'm sure even those most staunch capitalist with realize government needs to spend the money on infrastructure.
