So are we going to ram this thing through like we did with the AIG bailout? Hurry...hurry....quick.......vote yes but don't read it.

Mother of Christ. More spending when we're already hemorrhaging cash.

I don't disagree that something needs to be done with health care but the timing of this thing could not be worse.

This will not help the country out of the depression. Obama again says he will not raise taxes on those making $250,000 or less. I'm just not sure where he is going to pull the cash from. Maybe he's going to get a visit from the tooth fairy?@):)

not gonna happen. his aproval numbers are dipping. election season coming up soon. repubs strategy of bringing up obama's days as a senator voting against a supreme court judge is a smart move. he will be forced to take more moderate positions soon as he will be campaigning for governors from states that aren't where the people aren't so liberal. watch out for the blue dog dems, and don't be surprised to see palin get into that fray supporting some of them. what does that have to do with the health care bill? wait and see.

god bless the u.s.

"Individuals also would have to pay a penalty if they refused to purchase affordable insurance"

that was taken from the next to last paragraph in the article. anybody else remember obama's vehement counter argument in the election when this came up?

don't remember his comments but I do remember the rather insulting govt manpower it would take to police this. basically, it entails setting up an IRS-like govt organization (yes, more govt!!) to monitor exactly who is refusing insurance so that they can properly penalize them.
that's right...increase govt with more bullshit police to penalize folks that already feel they're unable to afford any insurance? makes sense

I think one of the most shocking aspects was the one addressed above. If you don't have health insurance and your employer offers it, you MUST pay for it.

What? You MUST pay for it? Get the fuck outa here? Fo shizzle real? Just who the fuck does this Obama think he is forcing people to pay for health insurance?

WOW!

You have to remember, whatever the Bama says he will do the opposite.

You are right on in pointing out the similarities of this healthcare bill and the bailout bill: no time to read just vote yes. Remember the stimulus? "We have to act now." And now the Bama comes out, after it's clearly not working, and says "it's working just the way we planned. It will take two years before the stimulus if fully realized." If that's the case, why didn't he say so? I don't remember the Bama saying we need this stimulus as part of a two year program.

One other thing. Doesn't Mass. have a mandatory health insurance law? How's that working out?

it's absolutely astonishing how reckless he is. He doesn't care about quality, he doesn't care about substance, he doesn't care about debate, he doesn't care about consequences, he only cares about passing something within some silly short time frame. The man actually thinks you can come up with some new health care overhaul every few days. Seriously, WTF?

that's really about as dumb as it comes. Brilliant? LOL He doesn't have one lick of common sense. Think about it.

So healthcare is a disaster and must be fixed immediately. Not once in my life have I had to wait an inordinate amount of time to see a doctor or have a procedure.

I would like to hear from anyone on the forum here that has had a nightmare with healthcare.

Anyone care to share?

my colonoscopy wasn't all that entertaining @)

but other than that I, nor anyone in my extended family, have had any issues with healthcare...and that includes several cancer situations which are now in remission.

but, let's pass a bill this week without reading it and certainly without national consensus.

By Martin Vaughan, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- U.S. Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., a leader of fiscally conservative House Democrats, said Wednesday a House plan to overhaul the U.S. health-care system is losing support and will be stuck in committee without changes.

"Last time I checked, it takes seven Democrats to stop a bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee," Ross told reporters after a House vote. "We had seven against it last Friday; we have 10 today."

Cool.

Better that legislation gets stalled and/or delayed long term until more congressmen can actually read the proposal(s) and or engage in honest discussion.

Hey brother, I'm no promoter of fast track federal legislation.

I'm pretty sure that I'd have to think long, long time before I could even name one piece of federal legislation passed in our adult lifetime that was honestly needed as quickly as those pushing it insisted.

Most has already been done. Rep Mike Ross (Daves conservative Dem) well, his old chief of staff is a lobbyist for the health insurance people.

our Vee Pee would like to give you all some sound advice on fiscal responsibility. If you're about to go bankrupt, keep spending! @):)
also, it's a good time for scare tactics that worked so well to pass the first stimulus...

Vice President Joe Biden told people attending an AARP town hall meeting that unless the Democrat-supported health care plan becomes law the nation will go bankrupt and that the only way to avoid that fate is for the government to spend more money.

“And folks look, AARP knows and the people with me here today know, the president knows, and I know, that the status quo is simply not acceptable,” Biden said at the event on Thursday in Alexandria, Va. “It’s totally unacceptable. And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if we wanted to keep it the way we have it now. It can’t do it financially.”

“We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation,” Biden said.

“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.” (Listen to Audio)

The event, sponsored by the AARP – which supports the Obama administration’s plan – was attended by mostly AARP members who were bussed in for the meeting.

Biden took time from answering questions to chat with a member of the audience, who were mostly members of the AARP.

Biden told the group that the Obama health plan will not eliminate people’s ability to choose their health care insurance and that people who cannot afford insurance will be covered by the plan.

They’ll be a deal in there so there’s competition, so what you’ll have in there is you’ll have the ability to go in there and say, ‘Now look, this is the policy I want. This is the one,” Biden said.

“And those people who can’t afford to get in there, up to a certain income, we’re going to subsidize them, you get in there and we’ll help you pay for it,” Biden said.

After opening remarks by Biden and AARP CEO A. Barry Rand, the audience asked questions, which were fielded by Biden, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Nancy Ann DeParle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform.

Top 3 Joe Biden Quotes of the Week

af571013-7d06-499a-895d-c66fc8ded42d.jpg

#1: Health Care Reform for Seniors

We're doing things that we know are going to save you, your children and your grand children billions of dollars over the next years. But we're not able to prove it." (AARP Meeting - Virginia)

The Middle Class Task Force met in Alexandria, Virginia with healthcare pertaining to aging Americans on their minds. Today’s afternoon meeting at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center included HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, White House Office of Health Reform Director Nancy-Ann DeParle and AARP CEO Barry Rand. They discussed fixing “The Medicare Doughnut Hole,” which is costing seniors $15 billion on their prescription drugs each year. They also discussed other health care reform proposals – no denial based on pre-existing conditions, no age discrimination and no fee hikes for sick patients. His comments will undoubtedly become sound bites for that last clause – “But we’re not able to prove it” – but he did try to rebound with his claim that it will actually save taxpayers money in the long run. He optimistically added, “We’ve never been so close. Everyone sees that we need it and we are going to get it right this time.”

#2: AARP Gaffe

“Folks look, AARP knows and the people with me here today know, the president knows, and I know, that the status quo is simply not acceptable. It’s totally unacceptable. And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if we wanted to keep it the way we have it now. It can’t do it financially. We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation. Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’ The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.” (7/16/09 - Virginia, AARP Health Meeting)

Did he really just say that? We're going to go bankrupt as a nation... and that the only real plan is to spend our way out of it? For political pundits, Biden's gaffes are the gift that keeps giving. These assurances do precious little to make us feel secure. It's a tough position to be in.. having to applaud this experiment in taxpayers' dollars, when there is no calculable evidence that the economy is any better off now than it was before. The White House's approach seems to point out the small, anecdotal "success" stories -- a plant opening here, a plant opening there. Yet, these efforts are hardly impressing the local people directly affected, so why would the rest of the nation care? We need jobless rates and foreclosure rates to go down, period. We need the stock market to climb and we need price stability in our markets.

# 3: Sheriff Joe Says “No” To Stimulus Money in Ohio

“The use of Recovery funds for the potential relocation of jobs from one state to another is not an approved use of Recovery Funds. If the city of Columbus applied for Recovery Act funds to purchase a facility to house NCR to facilitate the relocation of jobs from Ohio to Georgia, the request would not be granted.” (7/14/09 letter to Ohio congressmen Mike Turner and John Boehner)

Last month, NCR Corporation announced they would start to manufacture Automatic Teller Machines in a new Ohio plant -- creating 872 local jobs. The city of Columbus was happy to oblige, saying they could just use the $5.5 million from the stimulus money coming their way and immediately purchasing the building. There was just one snafu: NCR also planned to move their corporate world headquarters (which houses 1,300 employees) from Dayton, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia. However, Becca Hardin, executive VP for the city Chamber of Commerce, argues that these are two totally separate deals and that “not one job is transferring from Dayton to Columbus.” Worse case scenario, the city will have to use their own funding from the trust and eventually repay themselves.
