Oops, not another one... :missingte

It's hard to resist sticking it to the "Bush's diction sucks" crowd, especially when the Chosen One keeps pumping out gems like these...

"The objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years."

So either Obama is a moron or he fancies himself as the next Hugo Chavez and can't wait to consolidate power? :icon_conf

"And it's important for me to have a relationship with them early, that I start listening to them now, getting a sense of what their interests and concerns are."

Sure, Dictator Hussein -- they all approve of Bush's policies and hate your patently ignorant, arrogant ass even more than I do! The only international leaders who will ever be open to your anti-American appeasement and "hope" soft soap world tours are those who have already officially endorsed your candidacy: Hugo Chavez, Castro and Hamas.

"God damn, America!" :puke1:

MARK, don't sweat it. Senator Obama likely just has the gall to imagine himself as still being relevant on the world stage two years after his eight years as POTUS come to an end.

This in contrast to Mr Bush, who by this time next summer will never be heard from again save for those periodic public gatherings where they roll out the Still Living Presidents.

"There is a sort of Obama-mania in Germany right now, but I think a lot of people will have their illusions shattered if he does become president," an official in Chancellor Angela Merkel's office told Reuters.

Ya think

Lieberman: Obama couldn’t go to Iraq today if we’d followed his plan

posted at 1:21 pm on July 20, 2008 by Allahpundit

From Fox News Sunday by way of Team McCain, a succinct reply to Obama triumphalists. His point at the end about Afghanistan is also well taken, although Hitchens’s formulation from last week is more elegant:

If it is true, as yesterday’s three-decker front-page headline in the New York Times had it, that “U.S. Considering Stepping Up Pace of Iraq Pullout/ Fall in Violence Cited/ More Troops Could Be Freed for Operations in Afghanistan,” then this can only be because al-Qaida in Iraq has been subjected to a battlefield defeat at our hands—a military defeat accompanied by a political humiliation in which its fanatics have been angrily repudiated by the very people they falsely claimed to be fighting for. If we had left Iraq according to the timetable of the anti-war movement, the situation would be the precise reverse: The Iraqi people would now be excruciatingly tyrannized by the gloating sadists of al-Qaida, who could further boast of having inflicted a battlefield defeat on the United States. I dare say the word of that would have spread to Afghanistan fast enough and, indeed, to other places where the enemy operates. Bear this in mind next time you hear any easy talk about “the hunt for the real enemy” or any loose babble that suggests that we can only confront our foes in one place at a time.

That first sentence was echoed by Maliki himself in the Spiegel interview but, curiously enough, most of the U.S. media’s coverage of the story glossed over it. As for Afghanistan, Obama told CBS this morning that the situation there is grave enough that we can’t wait for the next president to take office before doing something about it. See this post at the Nation for an example of which way leftist sentiment is trending on what that “something” should be. Exit quotation: “[E]ven though the cover of the latest edition of Time magazine refers to the fight in Afghanistan as ‘The Right War,’ and even though Obama seems to have bought into this particularly dangerous variation Washington-insider spin, there is nothing right or smart about deepening the US troop commitment in a country that has a long history of thwarting the best-laid plans of great military powers.”

Ouch. That'll leave a mark. :103631605

Obama press told to cover up, not wear HAMAS green

capt.c44e96b6569b43c1854bebc4851178bf.obama_2008_iljh107.jpg

Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown, accompanying Obama on his trip to the Middle East and Europe, emails:

Reporters traveling overseas with Sen. Barack Obama were thrown a bit of curve last week when the campaign emailed a “dress code” for Israel and Jordan. Aides had passed along as a courtesy the list that they had distributed to their staff to follow.

But some of the tips raised a few eyebrows, particularly among the female reporters.

“Do not wear green.” (Explained later as the color of Hamas)

“Do not wear nail polish.”

“Women should only wear a limited amount of jewelry.”

“Shoulders and arms must be fully covered (no strapless tops, no tank tops, no short sleeve shirts.)"

“Closed-toe shoes, women should also wear stockings.”

At historical and religious sites, a suit or slacks should be worn, shoulders and arms must be covered (“no strapless tops, no tanks tops no short sleeve shirts”), shoes might need to be removed, and women may be asked to cover their heads and “should be prepared with a scarf/pashmina,” the email stated.

As the traveling press prepared to depart tonight from Chicago for Jordan, there was a dash to cover toes and arms – or at least be prepared upon arrival in the Middle Eastern country tomorrow. Still spotted on the bus en route to the airport: plenty of jewelry, tank tops, and nail polish.

ALSO:

New for the trip: The campaign's remodeled 757, which, in atypical Obama style, carries the campaign's logo and slogan. (Obama was unusual during the primary for not decking out his camapign bus in shrink-wrap.) But interestingly, his name is barely noticeable - it's seen only in the web address written just under his slogan "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN" . The plane's tail simply carries the logo.

Obama, of course, is not with us.

Update of the "Hope" World Tour...

Obama Shunning Foreign Media

Christoph von Marschall of Germany’s Der Tagesspiegel says the Barack Obama campaign has been making sure Obama doesn’t have to answer any real questions from the international media: Snubbed by Obama.

Barack Obama is on his way to Europe, where an adoring public awaits. But I wonder if the reception would be quite so enthusiastic if Obama’s fans across the Atlantic knew a dirty little secret of his remarkable presidential campaign: Although Obama portrays himself as the best candidate to engage the rest of the world and restore America’s image abroad, and many Americans support him for that reason, so far he has almost completely refused to answer questions from foreign journalists. When the press plane leaves tonight for his trip, there will be, as far as I know, no foreign media aboard. The Obama campaign has refused multiple requests from international reporters to travel with the candidate.

As a German correspondent in Washington, I am accustomed to the fact that American politicians spare little of their limited time for reporters from abroad. This is understandable: Our readers, viewers and listeners cannot vote in U.S. elections. Even so, Obama’s opponents have managed to make at least a small amount of time for international journalists. John McCain has given many interviews. Hillary Clinton gave a few. President Bush regularly holds round-table interviews with media from the countries to which he travels. Only Obama dismisses us so consistently.

This spring Obama allowed at least one foreign reporter on trips to Ohio and Texas. But as the campaign has progressed, access has become more difficult for foreign correspondents. E-mail inquiries get no reply, phone calls are not returned. My colleagues and I know: We are last in line. We don’t matter.

So Obama's staff is desperately worried that their candidate will make a gaffe, as soon as he ventures into uncharted territory. Foreign reporters tend to ask questions about....you know....foreign stuff.

You see, for Barack Obama it's all about symbolism and grandiloquent speeches. The man has this ability to give portentous speeches in high-flown Harvard rhetoric, perfectly pitched to sound thoughtful to college-educated liberals -- without actually saying anything.
