PAPER: OBAMA MAY ANNOUNCE VP IN AM
Mon Aug 18 2008 17:01:04 ET

The NYT newsroom was buzzing late Monday afternoon after Obama-beat reporter Jeff Zeleny learned how the Dem hopeful has finalized his choice for a running-mate -- and set out an elaborate roll-out to announce his decision that will begin with an early morning e-mail to supporters, perhaps as early as Tuesday!

Developing... all night long

It's obvious that The Obama campaign realizes that Obama was beaten horribly Saturday night and that this is an attempt to recapture some momentum and stop the bleeding.

It's down to one of these two...One will be VP & the other will be Attorney General for sure.

what's wrong with this?

you see the coverage not going your way and you try to get back the momentum.

pretty smart campaigning....mccain did the same with floating around a vp pick when obama was overseas

I am predicting he will pick either Cain from Virginia or Sebelius from Kansas.

At this point, only Hillary can save Obama.

But I doubt he's humble or shrewd enough to realize it.

He's going to make a big mistake by taking Keane over Biden.

He actually has a tough choice; two outsiders with no experience or two northerners. Neither option is very attractive, maybe he'll go elsewhere.

I think two babies in the big bad woods is his worst option.

As for the timing of any announcement, I have no problem with that. They all try to manage the coverage. Politics 101

Biden would be the hit man that would change the tide--but he isn't smart enought to do that. Of course, if he really wanted to win,he would pick Hillary, there is NO WAY he will do that--everyone else is soft or a loser.

There is no panic mode. This was going to be the VP announcement week all along. There really is not other time.

Sending Andrea Mitchell to provide cover for the campaign is a sure sign.
