not the prettiest card in the world, but there are some full fields to go after in here. the downside to the BC prep season is that the weekday cards are generally light as the racing secretaries save the cherry races for the stakes weekends.
r1: cassidy loves you. looks like slew's pot of gold is going to go favored and this may be a good spot to back comebacking 'cassidy. while he's not hit the board in four lifetime outs, he's been training forwardly for his return to the races. 'slews has the recency edge, but that last maiden special he exits out of was nothing special at all. at 3/1 or better, it's a good gamble.
r3: blueasarobingeggs. this horse with a mouthful of a name makes her first start for jack carava, which is always a successful angle to back. 'blue has great turf breeding on top with champion dumaani and should get a great trip sitting off the speed.
r5: twothirtyseven. the last running line could hardly look worse, so that'll help our price on this very cheap son of siberian summer. i expect him to show much more speed under pedroza and this race strikes me as one that will be difficult to win from too far off the pace.
r6: gold sphinx. i loved this one's stateside debut at del mar as he battled a brutal pace and still won the war. he should get a similar trip in here and i think 9/2 is a steal.
r7: house of fortune. this is the best filly in the race and i just don't see all that much that can rise up and bite her.
r8: docket. this will be a small play for me b/c it will be very difficult to defeat sunny outcome if she repeats her big run first time out. i will play docket only because the clear second choice, fresal, is going in reverse and i look at this race as one where you only have to beat one horse- so i'll take a swing with docket, who is by super win early sire, in excess and the kid mandella can win at first out, despite the poor stats. at a price, worth a small bet.
