serious buy a honda or toyota and run that thing into the ground. use your money for more important endeavors like gambling, alcohol and things you like.
Looking for suggestions/experiences with different models. My 2002 Explorer has bitten the dust. I would like something a little smaller that gets decent gas mileage. I need either a small SUV or a hatchback with enough room for my Golden Retriever. Trying to stay under 20K for a used one.

Get a Ford Escape. There are tons of them out there, and Ford makes a good product. I have a 2005 that I just gave to my daughter. Never had a problem with it.
