The price of smoking in 2017
This summer marks the seventh year The Awl has conducted its (very thorough and scientific) study on the cost of smoking in America. As always, we called a random gas station or convenience store in each state’s most populous city and asked the price on a pack of Marlboro Reds, tax included. Mississippi has the cheapest cigarettes, North and South Carolina are tied at $6 (cute!), and New York remains — now and forever — the most expensive. Twenty people were unable to give prices over the phone this year and four people hung up on me. In Montana, a gas station attendant had me call him on his cell phone (“It’s piped straight into my hearing aid”) and discussed cigarette brands, before telling me he did not sell any. 2017 also marks the seventh year The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has tracked Teen Vaping. Teen smoking rates have been falling for years but, for the first time since 2011, the teen vaping rate fell as well. Congratulations, teens. Vaping is lame.

Of course. But even with federal and state excise taxes held constant, tobacco companies are still raising prices. Up over $1/pack in product cost over the last couple years. Seems that their solution to keeping profits constant while demand dwindles is simply to raise prices, with the assumption that demand is relatively inelastic due to the addictive nature of the product.
It's just an interesting phenomenon.

i have no problem here dude except for a old pot smoker in barman and vd, OTHER THAN THAT IM COOL, but again im a good person for people that know me in person and i help out the community here in so many ways, hell i give more money to make-a -wish than most people gamble a yr, that a fact....i give people on forums i have never met vip passes to pga tourney, how many here does that, so dont go into ck please be a good person, i call em like i see them dude...........fuck the people that do drugs i hate them, im doing a thing here with the local police in the middle and high schools in my area starting sept and paying for it on the drugs and if i can touch just 1 kid to not do drugs it will be a blessing
