I am tracking my picks on New York Yankee games for the 2009 season.

The Yanks are a great fade because they are almost always favorites. In my opinion, the team is not that good, despite all the brand names on the field. I also think the yankees are jinxed, by a toxic combo of hank steinbrenner, alex rodriguez, & various 2004 ALCS red sox artifacts still embedded in Yankee Stadium concrete that have not been discovered.

But when i think they will win i will pick them. This is not a hate the yanks thread, just an effort to make money off their games.

Lines are based on the number at covers.com at the time of posting. Picks based on action unless i specify otherwise.

4/27 - Yanks play in Detroit after having got swept in Boston. I think the pitching matchup Verlander/Sabathia is a wash. I would give Detroit the edge because they are 4-1 at home & the Yanks bats may be a bit off with a night game & road travel overnight.

yankees are killing me this season; can;t win betting on them, against them, unders or overs. lost 5 of 5 in boston series; 2 overs, 1 under, and 2 yankee bets. leaving them alone for at least the rest of this month.

4/28 - Yanks at Tigers, Hughes vs Jackson. Hughes, although i expect he will pitch reasonably well, will not go 8 innings, which means more exposure for a very inconsistent yankee bullpen. I don't expect a lot out of Jackson. He is 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA in his last three against the Yanks. Yanks have seen a lot of him. My feel is we will see a high scoring game (over 9.5) that is decided by the bullpens.

4/29 - Yanks at Tigers, Joba vs. Porcello. I think the pitchers are a wash. As long as both rookies bring their stuff, they will have an edge over batters who have never faced them. I feel the -130 line on the Yanks is inflated on a game that should be a PK. I also think the 9 run total is strange, since the total was 9.5 last night with more experienced pitchers. I sense a low scoring affair & like getting a home dog with equal pitching.

last night sucked. serves me right picking a rookie pitcher as a side & an under play.

Yanks vs. Angels, Burnett vs. Ortega. Well this is a big experience difference. To me, Burnett is the ace of this club. He is a consistent money pitcher, except when he is hurt. So far so good. Yankee bats face a rookie at their big bad new stadium. Its like pitching in the roman colusium from Gladiator. Intimidation.

The Joba test

Tonight we see the character of Joba on display. News broke that his mom got busted for selling crystal meth. Between this, the NY media fishbowl, & having to face the Red Sox, this guy has his night cut out for him.

I believe in Joba. he is a tough kid. so i am confident he will pitch through the adversity & deliver a win for his club. It helps that beckett is a total disaster right now.

Been taking time off because a number of games have been effected by weather. I also don't have a feel on every yankee game & forcing picks leads to bad picks. So i will post picks when i see value.
