timeline on the recent stuff
Biden formally cancels Trump's official label of the Houthis as terrorists but never stopped bombing them along with Saudi Arabia, and at the request of Saudi Arabia, leaving 500k deal with estimated 70% kids and women. Saudi's are led by the Sunni religious sect so naturally they took the side against Shia Houthis of Yemen as their bombing targets and not their kin, the Sunni Shafi'is. So the Trump Houthi designation of terrorists was just smoke and mirrors to join in some religious military games and Biden never pulled troops out of the region.
Saudi's aim is clear...get rid of the Houthis and then the country will be run by their fellow Sunni Shafi'is which is vital as the strait they own is the southern exit for their oil from the Red Sea and connects East/West in telecommunications cables. As happened in almost every conflict we enter the inverse has occurred and the Sunni Shafi'is have been pummeled by the Houthis making them much stronger than when the local fighting began in 2014.
Once Israel invaded Palestine the Houthis started boarding and small gunfire shooting at ships heading to Israel. For 20 years Israel has been blowing up Palestinian fishing boats to disrupt one of their only major industries so the Houthis told Israel they will do the same until a cease fire is called. ZERO people have been killed by the Houthis on these shipping raids....simply a scare tactic to tell Israel they mean business yet Israel's headcount in Gaza is nearing 30,000 in 3 months. The blockade is significantly impacting Israel's shipping, with delays of 2-3 weeks of potentially necessary energy, but hasn't resulted in any deaths.
The blockade has been so successful that Israel called on their good buddy Blinken and said to ratchet up our bombing like it was the Trump years because their shipping routes were being disrupted very badly but they cannot directly intervene for risk of the Iranian Shiites getting involved which could spin into a bizarre regional religious war with Saudi vs Iran and potential Iraq and others involved.
Realizing this the Houthis decided to take it up a notch. If they can fuck with Israel so successfully they will now start pop-shotting all US and UK vessels and cut the internet cables that connect under their Bab al-Mandab Strait which they own. Remember so far Yemen's blockade has not killed anyone yet it only pushed shipping dates back a few weeks and, of course, the US/Israel response is direct and dramatic violence while supporting Israel's genocide on Gaza.
