what else should I expect from an Obama program, eh?

My wife wants to purchase a Nissan Rogue, I want the Murano, but it's her car. We don't have a clunker, and we can't buy one now because you have to have registered and insured the clunker for one year. My kid's car gets too high gas mileage. So the clunker deal is a no go.

Since the dealerships are selling so many Rogues under the cash for clunkers program, they won't negotiate one penny.

So I can't get government money, and I have to pay a premium on top of it.

Fuck you Obama

^^:)

The good news is that maybe I can talk her into the Murano instead. The Rogue is much too small for my taste.

hey, she's the one driving it

but at the end of the day, I'm usually pretty influential. It's a process, you have to let her know it's really her decision.

that, plus I choose my fights wisely.

Fuck the Japenese car anyways.

I'm sure that if Willie's lady buys the car she wants, the Americans working at the dealership, the Americans who transport the cars to the dealership, the Americans who work in the service department at the dealership and the Americans who own stock in Nissan will all appreciate her business.

That's not to mention all the other tens of thousands of Americans who have jobs in the dozen or more other industries which benefit from being involved with Nissan Corp.

I've got a feeling I could learn more than a few Tricks of that particular Trade from you - based on your own marriage being double the length of my time with the SheBar.

I continue to take notes and place them in a special file.

Nissan has 3 manufacturing locations in the United States. Throw in sales, service and administrative positions at dealerships, transportation positions and feeder industries, and I'm sure they are responsible for the employment of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

I know a few.

Except for all the profits which are absorbed by the American stockholders in Nissan Corp and the aforementioned hundreds of thousands of Americans whose employment is a direct byproduct of Nissan's success.

It's pretty much a Win Win for everyone involved

I hope so...anybody willing to attract capital and efficiently manufacture cars that Americans want...and employ Americans in the process should be well rewarded for their trouble with profits.

If the profit seems really obscene we can buy the stock and retire early...vacation in Japan...and provide them with more capital to start the whole process over again. Each of us doing what we do best for the good of all.

Globalization isn't bad if you actually get out there and play the game that is available.

And 100% of the cars sold here are sold by American workers.

100% of the cars serviced here - both at dealerships and at other auto repair businesses - are serviced by American workers.

100% of the dividends paid to Americans who own stock in Nissan are paid to American citizens.

As MMJ notes, the combined interchange benefits people in both Japan and the USA.

Now if folks want to buy cars made by American manufacturers, that's a good thing too. But it's long past time to toss out the absurd suggestion that driving cars made by foreign-owned manufacturers somehow shortchanges American workers and the American economy.

who was "hoodwinked" and why?

I empathize with American auto workers. My previous car, a 2000 supercharged Buick Regal, was incapacitated by an electrical fire right around the time I joined this forum. I considered a CTS, but the Regal left a bad taste in my mouth for a number of reasons. Light in the radio stopped working, $ 500 to replace, windshield wiper transmission broke $ 500 to replace (I never even knew windshield wipers had transmissions), leather peeling from some surfaces and then the fire. I went Japanese.

Red hot auto sales under the U.S. government's "cash for clunkers" incentive began to cool as dealer inventories tightened and showroom traffic showed signs of leveling off from its frantic pace of a week ago.

maybe I'll be able to get a good deal in a few months

at least now I have an excuse for not buying her a new car. Her Pathfinder only has 30k on it.

So what?

Ultimately I want the best car I can find for the cheapest price that gives me the most value and features that I am looking for.

If it is in the best interests and is most efficient for that car company to assemble it in Japan...and then ship it to me...that's what I want them to do...if it in fact gives me better value in the process.

You act like building cars is your birth right...it's not.

"Buy USA" slogans and govt subsidy can hide the facts for a while...but ultimately it all comes down to the best product for the best value.

Period.
