Yes 2 1/2 -150 becomes an outrageous #, but if you were a BM, and had options of raisng the 2 1/2, or breaking to the # 3, what would you do...This is easy, of course being a Monday morning QB after the game falls 3...

I would bet the game + 2.5, and beg for + 135, vs taking + 3 -110...
I think they were right,if they moved to 3 flat or 3 dog 20, no buyback, and if they did, lost the same amount, there is a better chance of buyback if you allow the pros to play with you at a better + money.....
If I saw and had access to that price, I would have bet the dog, just a small play if I had no interest in game originally...but if I like dog, would have taken 2.5 + a lot of money, vs + 3 minus money

With all due respect, Monte did not go broke for that reason alone. People who know him well would argue that his main problem was not gambling, but something else...
Now I do understand your argument from a bookmaker's perspective, but being a gambler, I would NEVER bet into a 2 1/2 minus 50 line when 3'a are available all over the place.
Fort Knox did this a lot and look at where they are now...

+ 130 I probably would have passed,+135 probably
would have gotten me...
That being said, I had ZERO interest in THAT
game, but if I did, I would like 2 play at + a bet and a half, for a pretzel..I would have helped pay the winners...NP, would rather play
with the BM vs fade...plus money...count me in...I'm a sucker
