When you look at career numbers Koufax was a stronger strikeout pitcher. Putting the impossible to compare era's aside. The final numbers look like this:
Waddell - 5 teams from 1897 thru 1910 - wins 196 - losses 138 - innings pitched 2962 - strikeouts 2316.
Koufax - 1 team from from 1956 thru 1966 - wins 165 - losses - 87 - innings pitched 2325 - strikeouts - 2393.
There is a lot more to this argument, but I am just posting bear bones innings pitched to strikeout numbers.

Insty - How are today? I was around when Koufax was in his prime (In high school), although I never saw him live, he was on Tv plenty, especially in the 63, 65, and 66 world series. He really blinded the Yanks in 63. I have to admit I have never saw Waddell pitch, he came around just before the automobile did, so I missed him.

wilheim - All is well. The first game my dad took me to at Dodger stadium when I was a kid Koufax was pitching. He was amazing. I saw him pitch many times after that and when I was in little league we all wanted to throw like him. He had a curve ball you couldn't hit.
Drysdale was hot back then as well. I was at the game back in the 60's when he pitched a perfect game. Those were back in the days when they also had players like "Willie Davis" who was the #1 base stealer back then. What a show! Willie would always steal a base whenever he got on base. He made EVERY visiting pitcher really nervous...Willie used to phyc out the pitchers.
I don't think the Dodgers have EVER been as great of a team as they were back in the 60's. I don't think we'll ever see them as good again no matter how much talent they buy these days.
But I have my memories...

Yeah I think the 63 team was the best, with Koufax, Drysdale, and veterans John Podres, and Ron Perronski they had a great staff. The Davis boys, Maury Wills, Junior Gilliam, Ron Fairly, Frank Howard, John Roseboro, and even ex-Yankee Bill Skowron, made the team fun to watch and hard to beat. They played smart baseball, with only Howard hitting any homers (28). Very nice team.
