Pick 1: 7/27/09: Record: 0-0

Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals (7/29/09)

Los Angeles Dodgers (+103) at St. Louis Cardinals 8:05 pm EST
Pick: Dodgers (+103 ML)

Units Risked: 3
Reason:
Now the Mets want to begin winning ball games? What a joke that is. This team is giving their fans a false sense of hope, and with the Phillies landing Cliff Lee today, kiss the NL East goodbye.
Tonight I am on the Dodgers plain and simple. Kershaw is a road dog against the Cards and Joel Pineiro, and I will play it here. I know the Cards have been playing solid baseball since the Holliday trade, but the Dodgers are too strong of a team to keep losing.
The telling stat here is this....Los Angeles is 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position in this series, scoring one run on 20 hits in the last two games. That must change if they are going to win ball games.
Kershaw goes tonight, and in two starts against the Cardinals -- both last season -- Kershaw is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA.
This is a 4 game series, and the Cards wrapped up the first two. Tonight's game is big for the Dodgers and Manny is who is 13 for 29 (.448) with four homers against Pineiro.
Let's cash this ticket tonight in St. Louis.

Pick 2: 8/10/09: Record: 0-1

Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox (8/10/09)

Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox (-106) 7:05 pm EST
Pick: Red Sox (-106 ML)

Units Risked:4
Reason:
We are aware of the recent struggles that Boston is currently in the midst of, and tonight they return home to Fenway, and this might be just what they need to snap their longest losing streak of the year.
The Red Sox, who haven't lost seven in a row since a nine-game skid from Aug. 25-Sept. 4, 2001, are 6 1/2 games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East and tied with Texas in the wild-card standings after going 8-14 since the All-Star break. Needless to say, they need to start playing better ball.
Edwin Jackson gets the ball for the Tigers tonight, and Jackson's enjoyed an All-Star season, but is 2-4 with a 5.56 ERA in eight starts against Boston, including an 0-4 record and 7.67 ERA in five at Fenway.
Some trends I am following tonight:

  • Tigers are 1-4 in their last 5 Monday games.
  • Tigers are 2-9 in their last 11 road games.
  • Tigers are 1-7 in their last 8 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
  • Tigers are 1-4 in Jacksons last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Tigers are 1-5 in Jacksons last 6 road starts.

A nice 4 unit winner!
----

Pick 3: 8/12/09: Record: 1-1

Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs(8/12/09)

Philadelphia Phillies (+102) at Chicago Cubs 8:05 pm EST
Pick: Phillies (+102 ML)

Units Risked: 2
Reason:
Last time out we cashed a big 4 unit winner on the Red Sox in a tight one. Tonight we are back at it.
Tonight's play takes us to Chicago where Pedro takes the hill for the Phillies in his debut with the team. The Phils won last night in extra innings, and tonight will look to Pedro to get them another win.
These are two teams who could be there come October, and every game is important, especially for Philly who had been playing poor baseball of late.
The Cubs are expected to be without slugger Aramis Ramirez for the rest of the series. Ramirez hasn't played since leaving Saturday's game in Colorado with shoulder soreness. The third baseman, who missed two months earlier this season with a dislocated shoulder, could be back Friday against Pittsburgh.
After 42 career relief appearances -- 16 this season -- Jeff Samardzjia (1-1, 6.29) will make his first start for Chicago in this contest. The right-hander replaces ace Carlos Zambrano currently on the disabled list with back spasms.Samardzija is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA in three career appearances against the Phillies.
Some trends for tonight:

  • Phillies are 7-1 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series.
  • Phillies are 6-2 in their last 8 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
  • Phillies are 16-6 in their last 22 games following a win.
  • Phillies are 5-2 in their last 7 road games with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
Let's cash this tonight!!!

Pick 4: 8/15/09: Record: 2-1

New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners (8/15/09)

New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners (O/U 9.5) 10:10 pm EST
Pick: OVER 9.5 (-102)

Units Risked: 2
Reason:
Our last time out we cashed our tickets on Pedro and the Phils. Tonight we put our streak on the line and we turn our attention to the Yankees in Seattle.
The Yanks are one of, if not THE hottest team in baseball. They have won 4 straight, and are the leaders out in the AL East race.
Last night the Yanks won in a blowout without A-Rod in their lineup. Tonight he should return.
The Yankees, who have won 13 of their last 16 meetings with Seattle.
Mitre is searching for a win. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 7.79 ERA in four starts since winning his season debut 6-4 over Baltimore on July 21. Mitre allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings in that outing, but hasn't lasted that long since.
Some trends I am on:

  • Over is 5-1-1 in Yankees last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Over is 5-1-1 in Yankees last 7 road games.
  • Over is 5-0 in Mariners last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.
  • Over is 4-1 in Mariners last 5 vs. American League East.
  • Over is 4-1 in Mariners last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
  • Over is 8-3 in Mariners last 11 overall.
