Aloha Gang! Well, here we go again. Hawaii just came off of pulling their biggest upset win in school's history last week when they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide here in Hawaii as a 3 pt underdog. Now, this week they face yet another tough opponent in that of the current WAC Champs and #18 ranked Boise St. Hawaii, to me, has shockingly been installed as a double digit underdog of 10 pts to these Broncos. This leaves me with only one thing to say, and that is,"are you fvcking kidding me or what." Okay, lets make it two things. To quote Lee Corso of ESPN, "Not so fast my friend".
Not so fast my friend is right. What a gift for us Hawaii backers to have been given a double digit number to pad this game. I know that their will be a whole lot of fans all jumping on the Boise St. bandwagon, as it looks to be very overloaded already. Just go to wagerline.com and you see that the consensus has Boise St. at an amazing 70% to win and cover this number. WOW! But we know what happens when that wagon gets to overloaded don't we. That's right, it tips over and thus results in a loss for all who jumped on it. Well people, I am here today to try and help you not fall into this most obvious predicament which it is my guess that the Vegas Boys want you to fall into. Lets first start off, by listing my play on this game before I go ahead and provide my reasons for it. My play tonight, is to take the HAWAII WARRIORS +PTS.as a BIG 7 UNIT UNDERDOG PLAY OF THE WEEK. Yes, I know its on the Warriors again, and I know that it must be making some especially nervous, because it may appear that I only select the Warriors on each game. All I have to say to that, is why try to change what is working and seemingly not broke. Hey, if it seems right, why fight it. Last week was a Huge win for me as my GOY on the Warriors came through exactly how I called it. This week, I am calling it a little differently, but the result should provide us with another Huge win.
Ok, lets start, first off I am aware of all the stats, trends, matchups, histories, etc. So I will not go into them, as it is available to most of us to get this info. I like to focus instead on, as most know, on the present or current situations facing each team, or one team in particular. But, I will be stating one trend which may come as news to some and may not to others regarding the Hawaii Warriors. Don't get me wrong here, I know how talented and dangerous this Boise St. squad is and they have proven themselves to be winners throughout the year. But this is the final game of the year, and in this type of setup, especially played here in Hawaii, at this time of year, the advantages for Hawaii almost always plays out to be big disadvantages for the visiting squads. The following , are a list of situations which Boise St. has already faced, will have to face, and definately without question is going to face. These obsticles may turn out to affect Boise St. in more ways then one, and if so, they will only give the Warriors more added advantages in which to capitalize on.
1. The very long traveling distance in which this Boise St. team have endured. Just like how traveling takes a toll on Hawaii when playing on the mainland. The same can be said about the traveling and distance that other teams who come here have to now endure. Boise St. has traveled the farthest they ever traveled for a football game, as they have logged almost 2,900 miles for this journey to paradise. This is simply not a norm for them so I feel it will definately play a factore on their performance in this game, as long distance traveling has to always be given some respect because of its ill effects.
2. The weather, will be big jump in temperature for Boise St. to have to endure and adjust to. Currently in Boise, the weather fluctuates at Highs of 45 degrees to Lows in the 20's. In Honolulu, they will be exposed to High temperatures in the 80's to Low temperatures in the 70's, with the humidity holding steady at 79%. The muggy weather has also appeared again, and currently we have a slightly overcast but sunny conditions. The conditions for game time, will not be similar to that of last week. This hot humid conditions will definately pose a disadvantage to the Broncos, who hasn't had enough time to get climatized to the weather and higher temp. Just like how a warm weather team is affected by playing in the cold, the same holds true when a cold weather team must now play in warm muggy weather.
3. Double revenge factor for the Warriors. Hawaii got rocked last year on the Broncos Blue Carpet and believe me, they haven't forgotten about that game. Now tonight, they have a shot at revenge. But this revenge, comes with a special added incentive of playing spoiler, not to mention the added gain of respect that a win over Boise, a ranked team, will also provide. Hawaii is hungry to get payback, just like they were in last weeks game with Alabama. They are determined to not let last years results be duplicated in their House, as some so called experts are predicting will happen. Please, "not so fast my friend", the Warriors do have a reputation of not giving up the House that easy, especially in season ending televised games.
4. Distractions are everywhere in Hawaii. Most teams all face the same type of distractions when they travel to Hawaii for a game. But teams like Boise, who live in rural, dull, boring, slow paced cities, tend to be affected more by the many fast paced, exciting, once in a lifetime scenery, not to mention the women, when they arrive. This type of distraction is extremely hard on young players to maintain their complete focus on playing the game. Its sort of like a kid in a candy store. They will eventually be to occupied on other things. When that happens, how is it that a team can come out successful against one whose focus is completelyon a higher level increasing their determination on winning. Adding to this ease to which the Boise players become supseptible to the distractions, is the fact that Boise St. has really nothing to gain from this game. They have already won the WAC title, and not even a loss will take that away. They have already secured their bowl game against TCU, and this game has no bearing at all for them in changing or affecting that. Lastly, they have acquired a top 20 rankings and have won the respect and awe of everyone in the nation, as evident in them being installed as a 10 pt favorite. The only other thing that others may comment on , is the fact that they have the incentive of going undefeated in the WAC for two years straight. Well this may be true, but I feel that reaching this milestone is more important to the administration then it will be for the players, especially since the players have already received recognition by every news publication, as "the best in the WAC, two years straight." This Boise St. team early acceptance and superior like mentality over all members of the WAC, has positioned themselves on that oh so dangerous pedestal which is just asking to get knocked down.
Their attitudes showed through comments made on this game here, as just another game, and that they will play whomever and wherever, has helped to position them for that big fall. This game is just a perfect setup, for these hungry Warriors who are now primed, poised, prepped, prepared, and pumped up for this game, cannot be ignored. The Warriors are determined to bring Boise St. back down to reality. The following situations all are in favor of the Warriors and they will only help them to acquire back from Boise St., their earlier recognition as the best in the WAC.
1. National Television Appearance. This game is being broadcasted on ESPN 2 and will again allow the Warriors to show case their talent, but more importantly provide them a means to show everyone on the mainland they disserve the respect also as one of the WAC's elite. The big digit number placed on this game following Hawaii's big upset of legendary Alabama, simply says No Respect. When Boise traveled to Fresno St. to play, they were only installed as a 8 pt favorite. Hawaii spanked Fresno St., but still , more respect was given to Fresno St. in their House. This is a slap in the face to the Warriors. Don't they know that Hawaii has a tendency to slap back, especially on National TV, and more so against ranked teams. How soon they forget those similar situations involving Oregon St. and BYU, as well as Alabama last year who came in ranked and with 9 wins.
2. TEAM CONFIDENCE. The entire Hawaii team after last weeks victory, comes into this game with a renewed sense of team confidence. this was also the result of backup QB Jason Wieldon's senior leadership and confidence as he led Hawaii to that victory. This so called improbable feat, has only led to inspiring everyone to believe that they can play ball with anyone. This type of team confidence is something that can take an average team to achieve more than they were supposed to. But it can also, lead a team with great players to greater heights, as I sense this Warrior team is headed to. The Warriors have team confidence, and that makes them even more dangerous than before.
3. The House Will Be Rockin Tonight. This is the last home game for the Warriors. The House will be sold out tonight. Seniors will want to go out on a winning note, and with a big bang. What better way to do that then with a upset of the #18 ranked Boise St. Broncos. The fans wil be into this game, seemingly more than last weeks Alabama game and they will make it difficult for that Boise Off. This enegy from fans can only help in keeping the Warriors motivated and energized all night long. Who is going to energize Boise tonight?
4. These stats provide positive advantages for the Warriors tonight.
A. Hawaii leads the WAC in passing yards.
B. Hawaii leads the WAC in QB sacks with 41.
C. Hawaii has 6 WR's with 30+ catches on the year, and 5 of them have 400+ yards in reception as compared to Boise St. having only 2 WR's with 30+ catches.
D. Hawaii, has the ability to utilize two solid QB's to run this high flying Off.
5. Lastly, Hawaii since 1983-present, has a winning percentage ATS of approx. 73% as an Double Digit Home Underdog. This high winning trend and percentage, is only second to the NFL's Monday Night Home Underdog trend.
Thats it Gang. I hope you can see, that tonight the Warriors have an abundance of motivating factors on their side. Boise St., I feel, doesn't deserve to be such a heavy favorite against Hawaii. At least not when on this island. Boise St. lost to Oregon St., who lost to Fresno St., who then lost to Boise St. Hawaii beat Fresno St., who beat Oregon St., who beat Boise St., and now they are 10 pt favorites over Hawaii at Hawaii, NO WAY!
Hawaii has historically been very tough against top teams they schedule at the end of the year. I can't see anything here tonight other than a highly motivated Hawaii team looking for RESPECT. I feel they will get it. Take Hawaii +pts. as a 7 Unit Underdog Play of the Week.. Good Luck and Aloooooooooha CC.
