First of all, let me say i am not being judgemental, just overly curious. I noticed in a tread yesterday someone saying they did not bet, only reads the treads for info. What kind of info? I bet on everything , even how long it takes me versus the better half on how long it takes us to go to the store and numerous other things. I play golf quite a bit and would not even tee it up if it was not for somenthing, whether it be for one dollar or one thousand i have to have action. And no , i am not a gambling degenerate, just like to have action. I was listening to a local talk show host on the sports radio station today and heard him say he had never placed a bet in his life. I just cannot figure their thinking out. How can you be so knowledgeable and at the same time be completely removed . Beats me, think about this all the time. Again i am not judging. It seems like a lot of people want to have a hard on about anything. Thanks >b>r>

I have scaled back in NFL much this season and really would like to stop betting it all together. May very well incorporate that next season. Anyhow, When I watch games without action, I really enjoy the game more than having a wager. I can enjoy the game for the game, no matter the outcome.

I can watch a game and enjoy posting forums when I have no money on a game. 10 years ago maybe I couldn't say that though. Live and learn.

General,

I have quit the NFL this season except for very small wagers on Sunday and Monday nights.
This has been beneficial to my bankroll, but I have had to either get out of the house and do things with Mrs. Jones, watch a movie, read a book, etc. I just cannot watch a game. Today for instance we went for a walk on the beach. It's actually nice bacause Saturday's leave me drained.

I wish I could just watch the games or any games for that matter without placing at least a minimum wager on them. This is probably the saddest part of getting into this biz that I can think of. Give me even $10 on a game and I can watch it. But I used to be able to enjoy a sporting event without placing a wager.

And I could never go to the track either without at least a $2 ticket on every race, even if I was there only to get down on a specific race or two. Guess that's just me and probably a few others too.

Perhaps someday I can get to where your at, but I doubt it. I don't have all that much time left.

Mr. Jones, Best advice I can give sir is make yourself do it. It will get easier as you go and will not take that long. Do not wager or write down your fake wager and keep track. Or better yet, post your plays that you like in the sports forums and try to help the others. Posting can be fun itself. No one says you have to play them.

General, i do not know how you do it. I don!t have to watch, if fact rarely do. I find if i watch too much, i become too opionionated on one team or another. That becomes a problem when hdcp. Thanks for you ninsight. B.R.

buddy m,

Moderating helped alot. In the early stages of moderating(starting in Aug/Sept 2002), I realized that it took away from handicapping games and really getting a good feel for a side. I would start to look at some games and then an issue would arise in the forum that took me away and before I realized it, the game was about to start, so I decided instead of betting without good reason I would just stop for awhile and focus on moderating.

I think every moderator(past & present) here will tell you that moderating has affected their handicapping. That time away allowed me to realize I did not need action and once again I could enjoy the game for the game. In WNBA, Arena Football, & NBA before I came here I was doing very well in my selections. I have never been good at football, thus my desire to get away from it. At the present while trying to cap and moderate I am down several units. I did have a good WNBA season & still have faith I will turn around and profit in NBA as well.

Take care
