Rail man it happens. In Vegas it doesn't raise eyebrows, but when I went back down to your area where I grew up to hang out with friends the concept of betting for a living absolutely blew them away. When I got introduced to other people I got some strange looks and reactions to say the least. I think it has something to do with jealousy and the ingrained thought that no one wins gambling. Just roll with it is all you can say.
I was dating a girl in Vegas who came from a very straight mid-western family, I was betting games at the time and doing a little bookmaking, but told the girl I was a handicapper. When I met her mother one day, she asked me if I didn't mind saying what my handicap was because I seemed to look OK. True story.

lets face it most of the pro sports gamblers like to keep things on the down low about their career, anyone who goes telling people he is a pro gambler is either not one or is not very sharp minded. if you are smart you keep things on the low down with the exception of maybe very close friends, it might help you down the road, and yes we all want to brag at a party that hey I gamble for a living but beleive me the less people know the better you are off.
