It's not as if he won in the NFL anyway, just can't see him risking his current gig...USC is near the tip top of head coaching jobs...much better than many NFL jobs.

What I don't understand about this coaching merry-go-round that happens every offseason is how these guys get out of their contracts so easily. I'm quite happy with Petrino coming to the falcons, but the guy had just signed a 10-year deal only several months ago! Are coaches' contracts totally non-binding or what...

By the way, Petrino will be eaten alive in the NFL.

Seriously, right now where would anyone want to play coming out of high school over USC? .

In the NFL your dealing with free agency and salary cap, you can't automatically stay near the top no matter who you are...

I doubt USC falls out of the top 10 over the next several years.

It's certainly no gimme he will even succeed.

IMO, his style just won't work in the NFL.

But I will give him this -- he will fit right in with the majority of NFL coaches that don't know when to use their freakin' timeouts. Remember the 2004 Miami game? LOL

First of all, to think Carroll had any intention of going to Miami is laughable. He saw what kind of $$$ Saban got from Alabama and this is his not-so-subtle way of asking for a pay raise and showing USC he is not married to them. If he was going to take a job, he would go to Ariz where his boy Leinart is, where there are no expectations of winning, a weak division, not face Belichick twice a year, and he would have nothing to lose.
Carroll will leave when the "scandal" is about to hit the fan, so he has to keep his name in NFL circles. Trust me when I say you haven't heard the last of the Reggie Bush and Dwayne Jarrett "scandal" at USC (not to mention White, Leinart, etc...).
Lastly, Carroll lucked into the best situation imaginable. The Pac-10 is an utter joke right now, and he has a guaranteed minimum of 9 wins/year. There are no bona-fide coaches in the league. He is virtually guaranteed of playing in a huge bowl game and has his pick of the litter for recruits as USC can recruit anybody they want (Dwayne Jarrett actually wanted to go to ND, but they wouldn't touch him with a 10 ft pole). And while the SEC beats each others' brains in for recruits and on the field, USC has no competition. Carroll has become an utter control freak. Why does he need total and full power in order to coach in the NFL? Guys like Schottenheimer and Belichick have done fine as head coaches without the GM title.
Carroll is an overrated coach, but a big name who an NFL team could sell as "hope" to their fans. HE would get his ass handed to him in Miami and there wasn't a 5% chance of him leaving

Yea right, the competition is the Pac 10, , your getting mixed up with the Big 10, which most of us sane people know, is the joke. Once outside of the brutal Pac 10 he gets to pick on Michigan, Iowa, Va Tech, Auburn, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Notre Dame. etc. USc would never lose a game if they were in one of the lower tier conferences like the Big 10 & 12

I know Miami would offer him more money but money can't be everything in life.

I hope that after the run he had in the nfl he had his fill of that shit...

I wouldnt take an nfl job anywhere, unless it were a small market team with half way sensible fans. (nashville, northcarolina, st louis come to mind)

Places where you can coach in peace without having the whole world coming down on you week in week out!!!..

other than that i would tell every other team to take their job and shove it. I wouldnt leave a cushy college job where you are king all year round for an 80 hour a week job so some louts can call you nasty names every single day!!!:ohno:

Whormoan...if you love your job and get paid well doing it, why would Carroll leave...I am sure you are a rational individual but continous bashing of this guy and the conference sometimes shows your ignorance...JMO

He would leave because the pinnacle of his profession is the NFL. Despite USC's success, college football is still the JV. IF Pete Carroll is at a coaches convention and Tom Coughlin, Jack Del Rio and Jeff Fisher walk into the room, Carroll would take a big fat backseat. Carroll's NFL stints were not considered a success. And even now, believe it or not, I am not the only one who doesn't consider him a good coach. Winning under his current circumstances really proves very little. He has managed to get a reputation as this fun-loving character. All this does is take focus away from the fact he is a very average (at best) coach.

USC blows out the other so called Conference powers but struggles with the Pac 10 teams. That tells me the Pac 10 is alot better then given credit and these other teams outside of the Confernece are not. Most of these teams don't even look like they belong on same field. And you were the one that said Ohio St & Michigan were heads above everyone else. You make more foolish statements then everyone on this forum combined.

Pete Carroll has nothing to prove to anyone...He is at the top of his profession, a college coach who is able to recruit and run a program...his program is run better than some pro teams....Just wondering whormoan, what do you do for a living and are you happy doing it??
