Across the street, some dumbass said that he filled out 65 different brackets! Who in the fuck does shit like that??
If you filled out more than 10-15 brackets, then you need a new hobby!
I sort of wish that I had filled out a bracket on the ESPN contest though. I filled out 3 brackets in all at 3 different sites. Each bracket was exactly the same except for 1 first round game I think.
The crazy thing about the guy with 65 brackets is that he probably made 65 totally different brackets. The best way to do that if you are such a loser would be to fill your one best bracket and submit it. Then just change 1 game in each of the other 64 brackets. Maybe start with the final 4 and work your way back.
Well, considering I am the "dumbass" who filled out 65 (actually 62) brackets, I might as well defend myself.
First off, after losing my job recently and relegating myself to stay at home Dad for a spell, I figured ANY extra cash that might result is a good thing. And with so many free contests around, why not take a shot at them. I haven't had much cash to gamble with, so I still get that gambling excitement for no outlay.
I have won money or prizes almost every year in the last 10. Three years ago, I won a small Portland newspaper contest for a free trip to the next year's final four. I have also won $1000 several times, many small items (dartboard, signed football, free spa day for the wife, etc.).
By playing these free smaller bracket contests all over the place, I get to enjoy the games a lot more without laying out cash for larger bets.
I'm curious why that makes me a dumbass? Free shot at money? It takes maybe 5 minutes per contest. Is that such a big deal?
Yeah, I play mostly different brackets. I'm not trying to win all of them. I'm hoping to win SOMETHING. Then if one bracket falls apart, I still have some excitement with others. I think it would be dumb to play the same one everywhere, especially when you get anywhere from 1 million to 5 million for a perfect bracket.
For those that play powerball, do you buy multiple tickets with the same numbers? Seems kind of retarded to me.
As an aside, I was in first place (out of like 25,000 entries) at Sportsline in 1997 going into the FINAL, needing only Kentucky to win straight up. They were an 8 point favorite or so, if I remember right. First place was either $5K or $10K. They lost to Arizona. I fell all the way to like 27th or something, and won a nerf football instead. Sigh.
Anyway, say what you want, but I love NCAA time. Free brackets for free prizes. It usually costs me one day of filling them all out. So what?
