NL All Star Outfield ...Bonds, Griffey, Sosa ...not since the historic 1971

not since the historic 1971 outfield of Aaron , Mays and Clemente have we had such a legendary trio in the same outfield together...

That 1971 Allstar game was a classic, it had a little bit of everything ....The mammoth 520 ft homer from Reggie Jackson off Dock Ellis....a very rare American League victory , and probably the most incredible group of baseball allstars to ever play in the same game with historic Tiger Stadium as the setting....

Around that time (1971), was the time of the first wave of great black ballplayers careers reaching thier ends... With legends like Clemente,Mays,Aaron, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, McCovey, Yaz,Killebrew, Kaline,Rose and Juan Marichal and Aparicio..... and young rising stars like Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench,Vida Blue,Rod Carew,Jim Palmer,Tom Seaver, Willie Stargell, Lou Brock, Carlton... the list goes on and on....it was an amzing group

As a youngster, I sweated out every All-Star game hoping for an AL win.........needless to say, I was a deprived child.

The baseball ALL-STAR game, no other professional all-star game even comes close to this annual mid-summers classic!!

Fish I was the same way, back then it seemed so important...and the National League dominated the Mid-Summer Classic....the main reason IMO FIsh...the National League if you take note, was much more receptive to signing black ballplayers in the 50's and 60's ....

When you take a look at the rosters from thos early years, the National League had ALL THE GREAT BLACK BALLPLAYERS.....the American League was the much more racist league, with stubborn owners who were too racist for their teams own good and oh how they suffered!!!!!

The Yankees could have had their pick , but chose to be a white team...

Even scanning the list from 1971, the only great black ballplayer who'd been around for awhile was Frank Robinson...who started with the NL Reds....

I met this individual in Vegas and what a trully nice guy he was.

Some NL All-Star outfield. Corked bat playing RF, Steroid abuser in LF, Washed up has been(.239 avg. 1 for his last 27) in CF.

19 Homers 54 RBIs, not too bad. He is also batting 333 with RISP. He sucks with noone on though, 218, but he has come through in big situations all year.

For comparison sakes, Bonds is 333, Thome is 191, Helton is 293, Overbay is 299. With RISP that is. JR has come up big all season.
