Toronto Maple Leafs ML +136
Toronto Maple Leafs +0.5 (-106)
Toronto Maple Leafs/New York Islanders Under 5 +127

The Leafs are 1-0-2 after losing their opening game to the Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs have vastly improved on defense after their first game - Ed Belfour has been solid posting a shutout against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. The Islanders on the other hand are 2-0-1 in their last 3 games after also losing in their season opener against the Capitals. The Islanders have scored 10 goals in those 3 games and have only conceeded 3 goals. In 4 games this season Rick DiPietro is posting a 0.83 GAA, and Ed Belfour for the Leafs in 4 games statistically compiles a 1.92 GAA. Both goaltenders are on FIRE and all statistics this season coroborate the fact that this game should go UNDER 5. The Islanders are favored since they are at home, and I expect a good-hard fought game here and this definitely can go either way. Expect this game to go to overtime and/or be won in the last 5 mins of the 3rd period. Last season, the Leafs were 2-1-1 vs the Islanders. Gotta play the UNDERDOG here - pure value!
Crazy Ivan's Projected Score: TOR 2 - NYI 1

Florida Panthers ML +154
Florida Panthers +0.5 (+112)

The Panthers are 1-2-2 this season and the Rangers are 0-2-2. The Panthers are averaging 26.4 shot per game this season but are allowing their opponents to an average of 36.4 shots per game. However, being outshot does not mean it is a bad thing, the Panthers seem to play much better when Luongo faces a lot of rubber. The Panthers have scored 8 goals and have allowed only 8 as well. Roberto Luongo has been nothing short of marvelous on an average defensive team posting a 1.56 GAA.
The Rangers this season have just been plain BAD...this team does not
seem interested in winning - not even in their home opener. Markkanen has a 5.08 ERA and the starting goalie Dunham has a 2.22 GAA - in my opinion both goalies are not in the same league as the young "goalie of the future" Roberto Luongo of Florida. The Rangers have been shutout twice this season already and are averaging 27.5 shots per game while conceding 29 shots on average per game.
The game will definitely be decided by goaltending and special teams. The Rangers have yet to score a goal on the powerplay (ranked last), while the Panthers are ranked 6th on the PK with a 89.3% and ranked 23rd on the PP with a 11.1% record.
Expect Mike Keenan to fire up his troops in his old stomping ground at MSG...Gotta play the LIVE DOG here and the 'better' goalie!
Crazy Ivan's Projected Score: FLA 2 - NYR 0 (Luongo gets the shutout)

I really do like the UNDER but I feel that it could PUSH - and I really don't like rellying on the Rangers goaltending. I think its a descent play - but I rather go with the Panthers +0.5 as well instead of the UNDER. The Leafs/Isles UNDER has a good chance of hitting I think...

[ Updated @ 10:00 AM EST ]

Mika Noronen, Buffalo Sabres - Noronen is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Canucks, reports the Buffalo News.

Roberto Luongo, Florida Panthers - Luongo is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Rangers, reports the Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Garth Snow, New York Islanders - Snow is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Maple Leafs, reports the New York Newsday. However, the New York Post reports that Rick DiPietro is the probable starter instead. Take your pick, but as usual we'll try and get an update later.

Manny Legace, Detroit Red Wings - Legace is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Canadiens, reports the Detroit News.

Mathieu Garon, Montreal Canadiens - Garon is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Red Wings, reports the Montreal Gazette.

Mike Dunham, New York Rangers - Dunham is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Panthers.

Ed Belfour, Toronto Maple Leafs - Belfour is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Islanders.

Dan Cloutier, Vancouver Canucks - Cloutier is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Sabres.

Roman Turek, Calgary Flames - Turek returned to action on Saturday after suffering a head injury earlier in the week but now be sidelined with an unrelated knee problem, reports the Calgary Sun. Apparently, the netminder felt a "twinge" early in Saturday's loss to the Sabres but didn't remove himself for the game. He will be re-assessed today but the Flames are probably taking no chances as they have already recalled third stringer Dany Sabourin from the AHL. If Turek is to miss time, Jamie McLennan would fill in for him so he is worthy of a pickup in daily transaction pools.

Tuesday Picks

Calgary Flames ML +130

Flames have won 2 out of their last 3 games while the Wild have lost 3 out of their last 4. The Flames were 2-2-1 vs the Wild last season. Mclennan is 2-0 so far for the Flames - gotta ride the Flames here!

Atlanta Thrashers ML +195
Both Atlanta and Tampa Bay are undefeated - play the underdog! The Thrashers are worth +195 considering they are 3-0-2 and have played in 2 more games then the Lightning (3-0-0).

Boston Bruins ML +233
The Bruins have won 3 straight on the road and have been playing good hockey. Too much value for the Bruins!

Los Angeles Kings ML +109
The Kings are 3-1 in their last 4 games and the Flyers are undefeated in their last 4 (2-0-2). The Flyers are on a long road trip vs the Kings who will have Cechmanek between the pipes vs his old team. Should be a close game - going with the underdog at home!

San Jose Sharks -0.5 (+122)
Ducks have lost all 5 games. Sharks are VALUE considering they are at home.

Atl was a tough loss yesterday. They dominated that game for the most part. If it wasn't for Khabi, they would have won by a couple of goals. I had them big yesterday

Thursday's Selections - BIG CARD today (hopefully a profit will be made!)

Tampa Bay Lightning -0.5 (+109)
The Lightning are 4-0 and Khabibulin have been nothing short of spectacular (.955 SV %). Columbus are 8-12-0 on the Back end of Back to Back games.
Can the Lightning win 5 in a row?

Edmonton Oilers ML +251
Kariya is out...Oilers won 6-3 vs the Avalanche on Saturday...Salo is 3-1-2 in the month of October vs the Avalanche....

New York Islanders ML +102
NYI were 3-1 last season vs Montreal... Riding Dipietro over Theodre and the Islanders' offense here...

Toronto Maple Leafs ML +144
Toronto are 11-8-1 on the Back end of Back to Back games... Leafs have won 5 in a row vs the Coyotes... Leafs have the offense (vateran-savy team) and talent upfront to generate chances vs the young Coyotes.

Atlanta Thrashers -0.5 (-102)
Thrashers are 2-0-1 at home and have grabbed at least 1 pt in all 6 of their NHL games this season. Atlanta are averaging 30 shots and 2.83 Goals per game, while Nashville are conceeding an average of 29.8 shots and 2 goals per game. Thrashers are on FIRE... gotta play 'em!

Boston Bruins -0.5 (-154)
Carolina are 6-12-2 on the Back end of Back to Back games. Storr will play his first game of the season and is 1-1-2 lifetime vs the Bruins. More importantly the Bruins are averaging 2.71 goals per game and only conceeding 2.29...Carolina on the other hand are averaging 1.40 goals but are allowing 2.00 goals per game. Bruins are 4-0-1 in their last 5 (and are 4-1-2 during the season versus a winless Hurricanes team of 0-2-3).

Chicago Blackhawks ML +154
Sharks are 0-2-1 at home, BlackHawks are 0-3-0 on the road --> Two VERY BAD teams! Sharks have only scored 8 goals in 6 games, while the Hawks have popped in only 9 all season as well. *The Under 4.5 might also be a nice play - but I'll take my chances on the moneyline instead*
