First of all, the Hurricanes are probably going to be one of the 'worst' teams in the NHL and the 'Canes are just dropping ever since they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals vs Detroit two seasons ago. On the other hand, the Panthers are on the rise with some talented young players led by their "goalie of the future" in Roberto Luongo. Mike Keenan is a good coach in getting the best out of the young players- Olli Jokinen, Valeri Bure, Viktor Kozlov, Ivan Novoseltsev, and Jay Bouwmeester... Definitely going to fade the Hurricanes - hence, Laying 1 Unit on the Panthers moneyline and +0.5 due to the fact that most Panthers games are very close and often times result in OT. Furthermore, the Panthers are 5-1 in their last 6 games versus the Hurricanes.

The Canucks are the better team on paper here - Vancouver has clearly dominated against Columbus in the past history, going 6-2-2 in their previous 10 meetings. The Canucks have played much better 'defensively' this season and will likely maintain the Jackets from scoring 2 goals. Cloutier and Denis should keep this game from blowing wide open.

Jose Theodore is getting back to form, and the Habs will play their first home game versus Charpentier (Caps' backup goalie). Furthermore, the Caps appeared mediocre in the tie to Toronto yesterday giving up 17 shots on the powerplay and being out shot 36-18 in the game. Now they play a rested Habs team who had played extremely well shutting down the high-powered offense of the Maple Leafs.

Atlanta Thrashers vs. New York Islanders Under 6 (-130)
Dipietro (coming off a shutout) vs Nurminen (.930% - save percentage). Both teams - Islanders and Thrashers are playing sound defensive hockey...The Thrashers are playing motivated hockey after the death of Mr. Dan Snyder; while the Islanders played extremely well against the Sabres after getting blown out to Washington in their first game. Dipietro and Nurminen should keep this game close!

I've backed the Thrashers in every game this season but I might go against them tomorrow. I know the Rangers have looked shitty this season.

This is their home opener though, they know this is an important game & quite frankly I know they want to stick it to this Thrasher team as they have had their # the last few times.

My Thursday Plays:

Atlanta Thrashers ML +172 *Best Bet x2*
This is my 2nd BestBet of the season - last time I made a bestbet was with the NYR in their first game - ouch! Hopefully tonight, the Rangers will lose as well. The NYR will be play their first home game of the season, but has showed no sign of improvements although on paper they appear to have 'talent'. Nevertheless, the NYR should not be favored by -200 or more when they are 0-2 and were one of the worst teams in the NHL last season. The Rangers have lost both games - and in both they allowed 5 goals. The Thrashers on the other hand are 2-0-1 after the Heatley/Snyder accident - and are playing great defensive hockey infront of Passi Nurminen led by their coach Bob Hartley. The Thrashers won all 4 games vs the Rangers last season, in which the Thrashers scored 4 or more goals in every single game vs the Rangers. One team appears to be on the rise - Atlanta...while the other team appears to be going-no-where - New York.

Toronto Maple Leafs ML +172
Toronto Maple Leafs +0.5 (+130)
Too much value here to pass up. No way the Devils should be favored by so much - considering the season is still early. Belfour vs Brodeur - should be a great defensive tilt. The Leafs were 3-1 last season vs the Devils. This game should come down to the wire, and special teams will likely determine the outcome of this game as both goalies are one of the NHL's best.

Vancouver Canucks ML +145
The Canucks are always ready for the Red Wings ever since these two teams met in the playoffs two seasons ago. The Canucks have the offense, but can Cloutier keep the Canucks in this game vs Hasek and co.?!? The Canucks were 3-1 last season vs the Red Wings.

Buffalo Sabres ML +160
Biron vs Salo. A lot of value in the Sabres considering they just beat the Dallas Stars in a somewhat convincing fashion.

Those are all the plays so far...leaning towards underdogs such as Penguins (Caron in Net) and Coyotes (Boucher in Net)... will make a play in the afternoon to see how 'lines' move - if it does move in my favour...
