I have been meaning to say something, let just put in perspective how bad a job Tortarella did here in YVR.
Vancouver misses the play off after being a cup fav for the past couple of year
Tort's old team NYR go to the Cup Final with VCR's old coach
Torts was aloof and distance with his players - Appartently he first conversation with Alex Burrows was in Jan
He snubs the Franchise goalie to start the rookie in the winter classic - essentially putting the death knell on Luongos time here in VCR
On game days he would not arrive at the rink until 5pm from his home in White rock which is an hour away
He had two of most talented puck handlers in the league playing dump and chase & killing penalties
He exhausted the top half of the team early in the season by overplaying because he would openly say he could trust the other two lines leading to injuries and poor performances down the stretch the team complete folded
He implored the team to block shots leading to more injuries early in the season
Not one player had a career season last year (maybe Santorelli but he got injured)- several players had their worst seasons - Edler, Sedins, Burrows, the list goes on...
Vancouver had not had season like that since the Keenan - Messier Era.
The stench is gone the new management is going to be great. The focus is to make the playoffs, maybe they will maybe they wont but as you saw in CGY two nights ago the PP is back PK is going to be great, Desjardins our coach has won at each level, we have good goaltending and you never know sometimes you just have to make the PO's and the chips start falling into place.
