St.Louis/Nashville Under 5 -140
So I said I’m taking a break till the playoffs. Well the playoffs are here. And the final four is not the only do or die games being held today. AWESOME baby! (apologies to Dick Vitale)
With two games remaining for both these teams they know all that’s necessary for them to make the post season is two points, regardless of how the Edmonton Oilers do in their season finale tonight in Vancouver. Still with St.Louis playing at Minnesota tomorrow and Nashville heading to Colorado this game is paramount to both teams.
My case for this selection is simple. Playoff hockey = tight defensive play. And make no mistake…this IS a playoff hockey game. Neither team will open this game up and no player wants to be responsible for a defensive lapse and cost his franchise a trip to April Madness, (apologies to NCAA).
In the previous meetings between these two over the last couple years a average of 3.5 goals have been scored, (35 goals in ten games), with only one game going over the total, (1-7-2). If these two historicaly play such a tight fisted game in the regular season then how should we expect anything different in this?
On the road this year the Blues have posted a 11-24-4 record on the total.
The Predators expect today's game to be a lot like their last matchup with the Blues, a 1-1 tie on March 11 in St. Louis when space for a puck carrier was hard to find.
''It'll be a tight game no question,'' forward Scott Walker said. ''It's amazing that in an 82-game schedule it comes down to two teams fighting for a playoff spot in the 81st game”.
NHL single unit plays………96-69-7.…..+ 26.79
Unit and a half plays………..14-6-1.…… + 10.62
NHL total to Date…………...110-75-8.……+ 37.41
