I'm still waiting for some shop to post numbers. If anyone sees some please pass them on here.
I've already made my feelings known on who should win the Vezzina. Tim Thomas has to be the recipient.
Mike Green also should be a no-brainer for the Norris.
Give the Hart to A.O.
But there's two awards that aren't so obvious. Rookie of the year and coach of the year.
One would figure if Steve Mason doesn't get the Vezzina he has to be a shoe in for the Calder. Not so fast my short sighted friend. First of all Pekka Rinne has produced comparable numbers with a far less healthy squad in front of him. In fact he has a better save percentage.
But my choice goes to Bobby Ryan. Ryan should have/could have had an entire year in the NHL but because of cap restraints opened the year in the AHL. He knew, Brian Burke knew, everyone knew he was NHL star material. But he took the demotion with maturity, waited for the salary room to open, and grabbed the opportunity with both fists. He will have 30 goals by the end of the year in which he played only 65 games.
Coach of the year has to go to Andy Murray if the Blues make the playoffs. And looking at their remaining 5 games, they should accomplish this amazing feat. Considering the boatload of injuries this team has endured since Erik Johnson had his mishap with a golf cart in August. Murray has always gotten the most from the least since he was with the Kings and they also led the league in man games lost. Julien has done a great job but he had the horses. Murray did his with a roster that should have been making their summer vacation plans last week.
