San Fransico -4 (-110) at Bookmaker.
Fading the Detroit Lions again. With the Lions you have most likely the worst overall talent in the NFL, and IMO, the worst defense in the NFL. The only way you could field a defense with less talent if if you threw onto the field 11 dried up dog turds. By my count the Lions have one good or "plus" player on defense in Ernie Sims and maybe to average NFL players in Corey Redding and Dewayne White...maybe. The rest of defense is made up below average NFLers, either lacking in talent or washed up (see Tampa re-treads). Unreal. The Atlanta game was comical with the Falcons putting up Old School Nebraska rushing totals and then Aaron Rogers did whatever he wanted against the Lions.
The Offense: the worst offensive line in the NFL. Being a Michigan fan I love me some Jeff Backus but he is a bad LT. Cherilus is *finally* starting at RT. Raiola is okay but the guards are piss poor. And keep in mind Marinelli wants to "pound the rock" with this offensive line and rookie tailback Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith thus far has shown he might have some good NFL traits but has shown nothing special. Basically, the Lions run game consists IMO the worst offensive line in the NFL, and certainly a weak run blocking line, leading the way for a back-up caliber running back in his frist season in the NFL. Oh, let's not forget about Rudi Johnson who the shitty Bengals no longer wanted.
The QB: career backup and now starter (only for the Lions of course) Jon Kitna. Listening to local radio on Monday (pure comedy) the vast majority of Lions fans were blaming the Green Bay loss on Kitna. Kitna sucks, but if anyone deserved the majority of the blame it is the defense (or lackthere of). Kitna is just average at best - his accuracy can really be off. He's been a hothead in both of the games this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts of poorly next Sunday to see him get yanked for either backup that, sadly, give the Lions even less of a chance to win.
The only position of strength for the Detroit Lions is the wide receiver corp -- and you'd kinda hope so with the way Matt Millen, the worst GM in the NFL (see a trend?), drafted over the past 5 years. Calvin Johnson is surging and Roy Williams is being his, well, odd self lately. Besides dropping two catchable balls vs. Green Bay he said some really odd shit to the media after the loss.
Coaching & intangibles: Rod Marinelli and his son-in-law Joe Barry vs. Mike Nolan and Mike Martz. Give me a fucking break. Martz will want to embarrass Millen and the Lions; he didn't belong in Detroit because he's been a winner. San Fran coming off of a big win at Seattle last Sunday; they have to be brimming with confidence. The Lions are still the Lions and this could be the worst Lions team of this decade, which is absolutely fade-tastic.
Playing The 49ers with confidence.
