WTF Niners 12-4, have to be OTR @ GB of all places,GB 8-7-1 & lucky to be there. Should "seed" the teams IMO!!:think2:

You can't go by that... GB Won their Div. SF didn't win theirs.. so the 49ers are the Wild Card

But I like that the 49ers have to go into GB at -10 degrees :)

I think that is the point silver trying to make. winning a "weak" division earns a higher "seed" than a team that went 12-4 in a really strong one

I don't see anything wrong with it. If you can't win your Div. then prove you are much better than that 8-7 team.

If they are that much better, then they should walk into GB and get a Win.

IMO that won't happen. But That's My opinion..

I generally agree with your POV. I just feel bad that a team like the Cardinals miss the playoffs while the packers, eagles, made the playoffs...worse off the Chargers in the AFC

Agree on what you guys are saying... and Yes. Cards should have made it... Chargers shouldn't have.
But I don't have a problem with the format .. because of the Divisions

If you just had a list of AFC & NFC teams and did it that way... Then I can understand Best records make it.
But MLB is the same way.... How many times did the American West winner have a worst record than other Teams....

SF should've grown some hair on their peach and won the division.

It's been this way for "centuries". Something "unfair" happened to your team and now you don't like the system.

Nothing should change the emphasis on winning your division. You don't win your division, you don't get a home game. You win it, no matter how weak it may be in a particular year, you do. I'd hate to see anything fix what ain't broken.

I keep seeing people sat the Chargers should not be on playoffs. Really? Why? They won their final 4 games and 5 of last 6 including 4-0 in division. They beat Denver inthe road and KC twice!! Other teams had their chances and blew it. The Chargers did what they had to do down the stretch when it counts. They deserve to be where they are because they earned it.

Earned it? Seems to me they were handed the week 17 game

Potentially a 15-1 team that was day 15-0 going into week 16 could be a road playoff team against a 8-8 team. Not out of the realm.

The NHL fixed this many years ago.

Maybe you win the division - you get to hang a flag and that's it.

the NFL does reseed after the first round though- which sets up odd match ups as Some higher seeds have shittier records than lower seeds.

Maybebsome of this is due to the expansion to 4 divisions- in the past 3 divisions insured better records for division winners.

If Cardinals stayed in St Louis maybe they would've won the division.......

They did what they had to do. Other teams did not. So because of 1 game they didn't earn it? They beat both Denver and KC on the road during that stretch. Who should be there? Miami or Baltimore who both lost their last 2 games of the season when their playoff hopes were on the line?

Agree with OP. Why does it matter they didn't win their division? They won more games than GB and should be awarded home field advantage. Winning a division shouldn't matter - it really makes no sense. I think the better team will win but o well

You might get your wish, NFL is exploring expanding playoffs from 12 to 14 teams and re-seeding the teams
