NEW YORK -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made $44.2 million in 2012, according to tax returns the league has submitted.

Goodell earned $35.1 million in salary, bonus and pension compensation. Based on IRS reporting guidelines, his total 2012 compensation includes a $5 million incentive payment and a $4.1 million pension payment from the 2011 lockout year that was paid in 2012.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said the compensation to Goodell ''reflects the value of his leadership and the success of the NFL at the highest levels.''

The league's revenues have approached $10 billion.

The game has been brought to new levels. NFL should share some of those profits via tax money....imo. We know the players aren't doing enough also.

Just doing some quick math in my head....
If Goodell earns this much from the NFL over the next 18(ish) years, he will have earned more money for himself than that settlement for all of the injured players combined.

Unlike the players, none of his money will go to lawyers. His salary should be capped at about 2M per year; how hard is it to promote the NFL?

Sits in his office in NYC but has climbed the ladder in NFL not-for-profit empire........

The amount likely makes Goodell the highest-paid executive in sports. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig made $22 million in 2012, according to ESPN. However, other sources indicated the figure may have actually exceeded $30 million. In recent years, MLB changed its tax status to for-profit, so it is not required to publicize its earnings.
