VSIN Consensus NBA 2-0 last night!

Though, they went 0-2 in CBB (not surprised, there are so many games to pick from).

In the NFL the Consensus they used involved Matt Youmans and after that, I am not sure.

Excuse this post if it isn't perfect - it is only my second post. A couple of weeks ago I posted my findings regarding the Statfox Bowl report. Then I threw out the report. I started to do a report for all the members on the other reports that are posted that I have any respect for. They are Northcoast Power plays, Playbook, Pointwise, Power Sweep and Gold Sheet. Now I understand that someone does us all a big favor by reporting every week on how these and many others are doing for the year and even the previous year. However I felt that perhaps looking a little further inside the data dump each bowl report represents might give us all a little better edge next year. What could that be? How about the number of underdogs picked in each of these reports and how did those picks perform? So here goes. Please understand the numbers are the best I could do and are CLOSE to being actual but if I am off by 1 or 2 please forgive me.
Pointwise - went 22-16-1 on the picks (they don't pick all these games as selections but they do show who they think will win and the totals) - inside those numbers however they went 12-6 on outright underdogs either winning outright or covering. A nice percentage.
Gold sheet - they went 22-17 over their 3 bowl reports - not too bad - but again regarding underdogs they went 12-9. Of course these are just grading every game they listed not as though they were selling all picks as golden, but for those of us who figure in these article as helpful to our handicapping it is knowledge.
Northcoast Power Plays - in this report and perhaps others it is more difficult because they definitely do not pick each game for results as many of their picks are over and unders. This of course cuts down the UNDERDOGS they would be selecting. I did grade each pick whether it was a side or total. they were 19 - 20 in picks graded or otherwise. They were 9-12 in actual selections sides or totals. In underdogs they were only 4 - 3.
Power Sweep - the cousin of Power Plays went 17 - 19 and their quick reference sheet makes grading their performance pretty easy as they also do over/unders as opposed to sides alone. They went 7 - 5 in O/U picks and only 6- 8 in Dogs.
Marc Lawrence's Playbook - His report went 23 - 16 overall, he had 9 outright dog wins and all together on underdogs either winning outright or just covering he went 15 - 9.
What am I attempting to draw from this? A couple of ideas seem evident to me. One) Betting underdogs when the numbers seem to tilt the game towards them takes nerve and goes against our human nature Two) these Bowl Prognosticators as a group do a good job of actually giving us clues as who those live dogs may be. Three) I am very appreciative for all the members who make these reports available and I hope they are all making some money because they do this favor.
Sorry if this was boring or long winded but I can now clear all this paper off my desk and get ready for the Super Bowl - good luck to all of you.

Thanks for your contributions!

We had a good football season and we now have two years of records. This thread slows down to barely a crawl after football.
In the past we have been lucky to get one or two newsletters a week. But you can change that!

This is a community forum. Your contributions, comments and questions are always welcome.

You can use google drive to post newspapers, its safe and free.

Download the newsletter file to your computer. Open google drive and click on My Drive (top center). Then click upload files. You should then be able to see everything on your hard drive under downloads. Find the newsletter file and highlight it by clicking on it. Once highlighted, click open.

Once it is uploaded, click on the 'get shareable link' - it is located to the right of 'your drive' at the top. You will then be given a google drive link. Under that, click share settings. You will see another google drive link. Copy and paste that link in the thread and you are finished.

I normally copy and paste the link in another window to verify its working correctly but you don't have to.
