There are a number of great resources to introduce you to horse racing, Tonyd. A classic book is "Beyer on Speed" by Andy Beyer (DRF speed ratings) and a plethora of website forums (not sure I can provide them here). The NYRA has horse racing on TV (check your cable schedule). You will learn much about horse racing from the knowledge experts on the program. I like maiden and lightly raced horses where breeding and trainer stand out. Good luck to you!
There is a reason why the largest rebates in all of gambling go to horse players as it is by far the hardest sport to beat. The racetracks take-out on exotic wagers averages between 15-20% (compared to 8-10% vig for sports betting). Yes, you can occasionally hit a nice Pick 3, trifecta or longshot winner but the juice and losing tickets will eat up any profits. I switched from being a horse player to being a horse owner (run on the NYRA circuit) and still losing money (LoL). If you do take the plunge, strongly suggest you set a budget and stick to it.

Can’t beat the Races
But they can beat you
Been playing for yrs
I play for entertainment purposes only
But if you do
Watch the will pay money pools
It will keep you in the game
Just don’t bet every race

Well stated. I concentrate on maiden races as I like to evaluate breeding. I also like stake and graded races. Playing every race will eat you alive.

Newsletter Tracking (through 12/23/2024)

The records here will reflect the lines listed in the newsletters at the time the plays were published. This is for the rated plays, the high-ranking plays, and any type of play worth tracking. There’s no reason to keep track of every bottom-tier or “recommended” play; it’s not worth the work.

Sometimes the newsletters will cheat a little by claiming a different common or later line if it turns a loss into a push or otherwise boosts their record. I’ll usually be able to note what happened to explain the discrepancy.

I’ll also highlight particularly good or bad weekends or short-term runs. I will not include picks from newsletter issues that we don’t get in time.

Starting to color-code the hottest and coldest records. Usually just anything hitting/missing around 70% or more with a reasonable sample.

Based on final line 3-9ats
Dumb way to track, when their are large line moves during the many days between when Lawrence Playbook Bowl Guide is made available to the public. The Playbook Bowl Guide shows the line the pick is played on. Record 6-7-1. Only a "Loser" would wait around and play a pick at the worst possible line.

This is a personal opinion, but if you can find about 5 or 6 every day horse players and take their bets, you can retire immediately. Jus' sayin'
