New Scam alert! It involves "Publishers Clearing House" and a cashiers check mailed

Well I received a cashiers check for around $5000 today. The check looked good with plenty of watermarks and other security measures. But I did not follow the instructions on the letter. The letter was sent from Canada. And research on the net shows that these scams are coming out of Canada.

I can imagine that there are PLENTY of senior citizens who would fall for this check. Apparently, most of these people asked their bank if the check was legitimate, and their banks would say yes.

But in the end, the account number was not valid.




I just trying to do WILHEIM's job here! He is the scam police around here and he may be able to add more helpful insight

Common sense 101. If you receive a check out of the blue from someone you don't know, that should be the first clue it's a scam.

Probably in the end the perps end up with private financial info that would get them started towards identity theft. If it seems to good to be true it probably is.

this is a common 419 nigerian scam in the past two...often done with money orders or other form of easily deposited paper/checks.

Bank takes 7-10 days to clear funds...meanwhile the company (in this case a fake publishers clearing house) asks for the % of money they sent u to cover the cost of the taxes/postage/transfer fees/etc etc and for u to send them it back by moneygram/WU/money order..etc...once u do this..they make hundreds-thousands of quick dollars and u find out 5 days later ur bank is short 3-4K+, or at worse case scenerio ur bank trusts u (happens all the time)_ and cashed the check based on prior experiences and now u owe them 4K+ because the money never exsisted and check is fake...mind u then look like an asshole and who is gonna look kindly at u for claims that u were scammed..lol ..seriously.. ALSO now ur name may be submitted to check systems for writing bad checks...etc and also the people who u sent the wire/money order to will now have access to ur bank account possibly...which wouldnt hurt us degenerates with 100$ in a bank and stuck with jus the 4K they ripped us off for, but would definitly hurt someone with a 5 or 6 digit bank account that they quickly cashed the check from.


Stay far away when things seem too good to be true..

the sad thing is...older people or people without computers/family enteractment//news...etc neevr know this is a scam and whole social security check or worse case retirement money can be stolen this way..

sad sad world...nigeria is to blame..seriously...they have biggest scams known to man going on through emails.
