Eleven inmates escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans after breaking through a hole beneath a toilet. Two have been recaptured, but nine remain at large, including individuals charged with murder. Authorities suggest there might have been internal assistance in the escape, leading to an ongoing investigation. The public has been advised not to approach these escapees as they are considered armed and dangerous.

In an interview with ABC News on Tuesday morning, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, whose office is investigating the breakout, said the mass escape was clearly an inside job.

Even Stevie Wonder can see that this was an inside job," Willams said. "Ten violent offenders don't make their way into a pod made for two and make good their escape through concrete, rebar and barbed wire, without there being some sort of inside assistance.

Louisiana state police have arrested two women who they say helped some of the New Orleans fugitives after they escaped in a massive jailbreak. Authorities allege they transported two of the escapees to multiple locations in the city and was in contact with a third, all three of whom remain at large. NBC’s George Solis reports for TODAY.

Three inmates who escaped a New Orleans jail on May 16—Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, and Jermaine Donald—have been recaptured in different states, Louisiana State Police report. Two escapees remain at large. The breakout exploited a faulty cell door and a hole behind a toilet, highlighting jail security flaws.
