I don't get it either...it looked like drive charts from past possessions and some other meaningless arrows.

I'm not sticking up for the new NFL.com site (I'm still undecided), but what you said is the most common comment after any site redesign. Even sites I've been a part of that were blatantly bad got tons of "I want the old one back" e-mails after a redesign.
