I made a wager on a site Sun. The message following my bet was "Wager accepted" and the money was taken from my account. 30 mins after the race (which I WON), my bet was put back into my account and the bet was marked "Cancelled".
I called the service and was told that "Due to a computer glitch, the lines stayed open and the bet was accepted by accident".
My next question is therefore; am I not entitled to the payout?
Appreciate your help here.

Wagers are normally cancelled when "past posted", no matter what the reason.

Welcome to The Rx.

Had the event already started when you wagered?

Do you have any way to prove the wager was before the event or posted off time?

Can the sportsbook provide you with evidence that the wager was posted late or past off time?

These are tough. He said/she said type things.

I suppose you did get your wager amount back.

welcome to the RX sds sorry you had that problem.. I have noticed some sites on the horse wagering have a clause that bets need to be in a few mins before post time race. Im not sure if it would cut you off 3 mins before. I

would think you still deserve to be paid from that book for your wager.

Thanks for your input.
Here is the issue as to why I was not aware of the timing.
My father-in-law called me from the track. His debit card for offtrack betting was acting up and he phoned me to place the bet on his behalf. I ran in the house, logged in, bet and confirmed that the wager was accepted. I was NOT watching the races.
15 mins later he called to tell me he won.
I went to check the account for results and after 30 mins, they sent me a cancellation notice!
I have spoken with a few other betting services and they all seem to agree that :
a) even though they too have a "past post" disclaimer, they would have still honoured the bet
and
b) the "Glitch" was due to their own software and because of that ,they should honour it.

It was an unfortunate incident but I really do believe that they should do the right thing.
Their first response was that "I cheated!" I had to laugh atthat accusation not only because of what surrounded me placing the bet, but that the bet was only for $40 !!!! If I was "cheating" as they put it, I would have summoned a great deal more money!

Where can I turn next to get some resolution?
My goal was never to discredit these people, but I am willing to do what I have to in order to get some form of satisfaction

Try betting before post time if you want the wager to count. You want advice on who to seek next for a resolution. Why doesn't your father-in-law contact the company that he has a debit card with and see if they will pay the wager, and if that doesn't work why doesn't he complain where he works at because it is their fault that he didn't have enough cash to gamble on. Hell for that matter why doesn't he complain to his parents for having him as a son.

What a joke!!!!

Seems as though your father in law would have been really in a hurry to get that bet in as he prob went to try himself, then had problems, then had to call you, then had to assure you got it in. Lots of running around and time wasting. If the race had indeed started or the wager made past the cut off and the wager was made too late, then it is no action. Seen this same scenerio many times and Olympic is a prime example. Great book, but if your wager is not made within 2 mins of post time, No bet. You should have the wager saved in your history with time bet was placed and then you can get the official off time to see how close you are. Let us know.

Take Care

To Bluevein- you are an arsehole so save your opinions for someone who thinks you have intellect.

Thank you General for your help. My father-in-law ran into a situation where some bad weather up here intefered with electronic processing at the track (not an issue of funds for the bozo who "assumed")
He then contacted me to see if I could get the wager in.
Plain and simple is the fact that they ACCEPTED my BET and TOOK my money.
I asked them one other question after this occurred. Were ALL those who put in LOSING bets after post refunded? I was surprised when the supervisor at the other end stammered at this question - he said he "thinks" so. This was from the SUPERVISOR! (I think so.....)
Looks to me like winning bets are shot back and losing bets are gravy!
It is sad though that we had an incident here last year where the lines were open past post atthe track and ALL BETS were PAID !!!!!! Shame that these bookies are not as reputable.

This is a cut and dry issue BOZO. 1)What time did you put the bet into the system?? 2)What time did the race go off?? Come back when you have answers to those hard questions.

I bet the time in Question 1) is after the time for Question 2). If not then you have a claim.

I am sorry for the troubles SDS. Yes, some posters do come off a little harsh on others, but its all good.

I would say that you will not find many shops who would have honored this wager. They did refund your $40 correct? And yes, they should have credited every losing ticket as well. One of these days a sports book is going to get really burned by cancelling a winner, then not refunding a loser. Some time, some place, 2 stories will collide and the book will look very bad & dishonest.

You'd be best off accepting the view of the mass majority here. You past posted, whether you were aware of it at the time or not, and you don't deserve to be paid on a past post bet.

Halifax:
Woodbine raceway last summer. Bets were accepted after post. All tickets were paid! I am just citing a fact.
Talk with BevHills Book - they told me of their way of handling such an incident.
Funny thing is that people look sideways at a person who gets trapped in this. HOW can you tell WHEN post time is if you are not watching or interested in the race ? Further, the site does not provide a "ticker" to help you along. Lastly, the system that acccepts the bet tells you that the bet is ACCEPTED!
Terrible when a regular guy gets criminal treatment from something that he cannot control.
And Genereal: you are correctthat ANY missing refunds from PRIOR to MY refund will cause problems - problems that this industry does not need. I will be requesting such documentation.

Welcome aboard SDS,
but no way in the world could a book, land or online accept past-post wagers, unfortunately you did not know it was because of the chain of events previoulsy but your wager has to be refunded.
This is a written and unwritten rule, no if/ands/buts or suppose about it
PERIOD!!!!

IF HE DOESNT DESERVE TO BE PAID FOR A PAST POST BET. THEN HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN A SPORTSBOOK DEDUCTING MONEY OUT OF A PLAYERS ACCOUNT IF THEY ACCEPTED A BET 15 MINUTES AFTER A GAME STARTED ISNT THIS PAST POSTING A BET BY A SPORTSBOOK

Exactly! I hear many incidents like this one and things do not appear to be a two way street! All I aksed for was a "Fair" solution. I am reasonable but the error was madefrom THEIR end not mine! I had the pick and made the bet on their system. I have since "tested" other sites and they all have "cutoff" times 1 or 2 mins before post without fail (even have tickers to show when each race goes off)
I think that they need to act fairly in these instances.

I do agree that the software should be repaired so that this never happens, because I do believe this scenerio is wrong.

A player gets home from work, sits down at the PC. Logs on to his wagering site, looks over the horses, then sees 2 names he is familiar with. Decides to make a wager not watching or even knowing the exact post time. He gets the wager accepted, and is very excited when seeing the results, only to be told later that his wager was late and will not be accepted. I do not think that possibility should ever be, but some books do continue and allow the system to accept wagers past post. Like they want players to past post, lose, and never pay it any attention for not realizing what they have done.

Books Software should be fixed so that there is no grey area.

In cases like these, I always wonder whether the book would have paid back this guy if he had lost the bet?

If they would not, then they should pay the bet.

Somehow this conversation sounds kind of familiar to me... But I have to agree with the mass you past post you won't get paid

I'm having problems believing that they will honor their word if faced with the same situation, just a sales speech...

THAT is exactly what happened in this instance. Because of this, I feel that they should settle on some form of restitution. I don't even care if they place funds into my betting account and restrict HALF of it from withdrawal until I make a certain level of bets etc......
Whether they repay the losses or not is very SUSPICIOUS. I posedthat question tothem and they STAMMERED!!!! It appears as though they "reviewed" my bet due to the fact it was a $3200 winner but you can bet that they haven't the interest to review every $1 losing bet that was made!!! I will find this out - bet on it.
The fact remains that they accepted, and I won.
