Well I have to say from here to ciudad colon where I live they are making alot of progress (working on it seven days a week day and night). Just wonder if they are working on it the rest of the way (at the same time) from ciudad colon to orotina. Didnt realize orotina is only 24 miles from ciudad colon as the crow flies.
They want to finish before the presidential election next year.
Anyway I believe they are working the parts that have traffic and are of highest priority. The middle is really just a layer or two of base, compacting and paving. Realistically they could get the entire middle done in a couple months since they don't have to re-do whats already there. The problem here Colon - Sabana is Underpasses that needed to be expanded, the bridge from Escazu 2 Sabana and the Toll Booth. Once they finish those I think the middle part will fly. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually make it on time (which would be extremely uncommon for this country but hey I still have hope that one day it will turn around lol).

The bridge in escazu is basically done... should be completely done within a week. They are building a new bridge by ciudad colon where the highway turns right after sportsbook.com. Yeah I heard most of the interior stuff from colon to caldera is basically done like you said just needs some pavement on it but the roads themselves are there. I think they'll be done in time. Also to let you guys know there will be at least 14 toll booths along this new highway. You can buy a box that you put in your car that you load with colones. It automatically deducts them whe nyou go thru the tolls so you dont have to stop. Should speed up your trip to the beach. Would recommend getting one now as I have a feeling they'll sell out and they will be out of them for awhile. They cost $30 bucks and you can buy them at hsbc and you have them load colones into the device there. Tolls supposedly will be in effect may 1st.
