Spurrier and Turner Gill are currently the top 2 candidates. Anyone heard anything else?

Turner Gill would be a fantastic hire at Auburn. He's already and excellent game-time coach and team motivator, and I expect he'd be one of the better recruiters there in the SEC.

Auburn's fucked. They shot themselves in the foot. Spurrier wouldn't go there if they gave him Cypress Point AND Pebble Beach.

Yes if I'm Auburn i would definitely prefer Peterson over Spurrier and Gill, but Peterson doesn't want to leave Boise and I highly doubt he's available for any job.

The guy I'd be going after is Brian Kelly, but I don't think he wants to leave his school either.

I heard Todd Graham from Tulsa could be high on the list for the Auburn job. And Oklahoma OC Kevin Wilson is on the list for the Miss. State job. I've also heard that Syracuse could be interested in Turner Gill.

Chris Peterson was offered the job at Miss St. and was close to accepting before backing out. He was offered double what Boise St. is paying him and had ties to the Miss St. AD.

I'd be surprised if AU felt Gill was ready for the MAC to SEC jump...I see him getting the Cuse job then a big time shot at a major BCS school.

similarly Saban had a stop at Mich St before coming to the SEC and Meyer had the stop at Utah before being deemed "sec ready"

from listening to 740 each morning it really sounds like the fans would like to see the Houston coach at least get an interview as well as Nix.

Please, please, please Auburn....hire Patrick Nix. It will mean 5 more years of complete mediocrity for the boys on the plains.

I heard Miss State hired Florida's DC. I wonder if this is going to affect the Gators in the title game.

I was interested to get everyone's opinion on who would be perceived as a good hire at AU. I personally think Auburn needs to get outside the good ol boy network and hire somebody who is unique to the SEC, who has fresh ideas and brings energy to the program. Being stuck between Richt, Meyer, Saban, and now even Houston Nutt, I think they need someone that will give them a niche so that AU can gain a competitive edge on the field in recruiting.

Derek Dooley, Brady Hoke, Todd Graham, Turner Gill, Jimbo Fisher are some names I've heard/read. I think Turner Gill is the best choice from this group. I would be happy if AU brought him in.

Hire some guys with ties to Auburn and the SEC such as Pat Nix as O coordinator, could they bring in Rodney Garner to help recruiting as an assistant coach?, keep James Willis as linebackers coach for sure, Tyrone Nix as defensive coordinator?

I was hearing on the radio from this guy that seems to know the coaching circles pretty well that Auburn wants somebody like a Todd Graham who is pretty tightly wound and would be able to go chest to chest with Nick Saban. So you can bet that whoever they hire won't have that laid back attitude. It will be a firey type of coach like a Brain Kelly or Graham.

If Garner doesn't get the HC job at Auburn, I can't see him leaving UGA. He was already at Auburn as an assistant, and he is currently the assistant HC at UGA as well as the recruiting coordinator.

Yea, that's what I figured about Garner. Im just worried about bringing in somebody without SEC ties, I think it's crucial for recruiting.

I have to say I was wrong last year, I didn't think Auburn would drop off, but Tubbs complacency has left AU playing catch up now. I think they will need somebody with fire and passion and hard work, I think AU fans would embrace it. I would like AU to stick with a good defense, special teams and running game, it's just what AU football is, but we'll see.

A name that was thrown out there today was Jack Del Rio. Im not sure how he would fit, but any other pro coaches out there make since?

Good grief, you don't pay much attention to what a person actually writes, do you? What I said was I liked Ball State in the game, not that Buffalo is bad. Just the opposite, in fact.

Strong display of reading comprehension, "stunna."

I personally can't see an NFL guy jumping at the Auburn job. I know this is slightly biased, but I don't consider the Auburn job that appealing. Granted I realize it IS an SEC job, but I would rank it 6th best in the SEC behind the following:

1) Florida
2t) Alabama
2t) LSU
4) UGA
5) Tennessee
6) Auburn

At Auburn, whoever the coach is, will always play 2nd fiddle to Alabama in state, and has to fight with UGA for recruits in Georgia. From what I have read, a lot of people are not happy with the way the AD at Auburn is going about the coaching search. We will see how it plays out.

(As a UGA fan, please let it be Patrick Nix.......)

Tubs just got flat out burned out. It could have been the numerous neck surgeries, the AU Board, getting the BCS shaft in '04, etc. Who knows why he got burned out but it was starting to become very evident in his coaching style. He was known as the "riverboat gambler" a few years ago but got away from his aggressive style and became very, very passive (not using timeouts, not going for it anymore on 4th and short, etc.).

Turner Gill would be the perfect fit. Forget about him not having SEC ties or SEC experience (see Urban Meyer at Bowling Green and Utah; Nick Saban at Toledo and Mich. St.). Anyone that can get players from Fla., Texas, NC, etc. to Buffalo has to be a great recruiter! This guy played and coached under one of, if not the best all time college coaches in Tom Osbourne. Tuberville was hired at Auburn because of him being able to get Ole miss off the mat but what Gill did at Buffalo is nothing short of incredible in only 3 years!:pope:
