The newest approve/disaprove numbers show Bush with a 51% approval rating. This is the same approval number Clinton had on this date in 96' and about the same Reagan had when he was running for reelection. A side note, no president has ever lost a re-election bid when his approval rating was over 50% in middle August! Yeah, that's right, Kerry's dead in the water (tag the toe)!

Is that a moonbat in my sites?

Blight I defy either one of you to proove that "no president has ever lost a re-election bid when his approval rating was over 50% in middle August!".

I see a little different qoute from Bloomberg:

Fifty percent is a significant threshold for an incumbent president. The last five presidents who won second terms -- Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, and Dwight Eisenhower -- had approval ratings above 50 percent in June of their re-election years, according to a Gallup analysis.

Doesn't say anything about August or any president ever, I could be wrong, let me know.

It's like the old Led Zeppelin song, Bush will be "Swingin' from the Gallup Poll".

Er, "gallows pole" - my bad.

Hey Wil, got my info from the most reliable source, FOX NEWS, quoting Gallups historical data (it was a gallup poll). June, August, what's the diff., it's still tag the toe!

Fox News reported that? It must be true!! I was watching "Crossfire" on CNN when a guest quoted a poll showing Bush ahead of Kerry by 7% points. The co-host said, "Who did that poll"?. The guest said, "Fox News". The audience of about 100 people busted out laughing.

you've also got people saying that Kerry is gaining ground in the "battleground" states, which to me is more important than Bush's approval rating.

Now just a cotton-picken minute Wil. There was no "creative posting" on my part. Mort Kontraki(sp), a southpaw himself, reported the Gallup poll on Bushs approval rating and went on to say "that a sitting president NEVER lost a re-election when he had an approval rating over 50% in August". I'm sure a few million others saw the telecast and can verify (it was that panel segment of the Brett Hume show).
