MOUNT OLIVE (WABC) --
A cook at a restaurant in New Jersey is facing charges after he allegedly spit in a customer's food.

John Stagg, 32, was an employee at Kennedy's Pub in Mount Olive. He was arrested Sunday night after a co-worker contacted police to report multiple health violations, including the chef of the pub spitting on a dish that a customer had sent back for being undercooked.

After being interviewed, Stagg was taken into custody and charged with tampering with food or drug product and disorderly conduct.

The victim, a 51-year-old Lake Hopatcong resident, was contacted and notified of the incident.

Stagg was released on his own recognizance and he has a pending court appearance.

The restaurant manager tells Eyewitness News that as soon as she found out what happened, she got rid of everyone working in the kitchen.

Stagg had only been there about two months.

I never complain about my food because of the fear of this. If something is wrong (rarely ever happens) I just let it be.

so if you hate blood and order your steak well done and it comes back rare....you would rather eat the blood than a little spit...interesting choice.

I get a poorly cooked meal or bad service, I suck it up and cross the restaurant off of my list going forward. No point in putting yourself at risk. This type of stuff probably happens more than one would think.

Same here, if the food is inedible (which rarely has ever happened) I send it back. Pay for the drinks and appetizers but will eat somewhere else. I am paranoid about sending food back and then getting something extra on what ever comes out the kitchen next

This is fucked up. Fucking with people's food because it was under cooked or something as petty as that is very telling of what kind people work in the restaurant business. And yeah I'd rather eat raw meat than drink someone's spit or ass.

They need to lock people like this up. Seriously, or just shoot 'em in the head.

Crazy thing is, for every one case like this where he gets caught, there are 9 trillion that go unknown.

My first job as a 16 year old was working in a restaurant and by the time i was in college i had worked at 3 well known chain eateries and believe me the employees do this at the drop of a hat, and other things too like not washing the dishes in the machine if its a busy dinner rush and the machine is backed up, just putting the silverware under water for a sec and wiping it off and other crap. For years i never ate in restaurants after leaving those terrible jobs
