Britain's female cyclist Lizzie Armitstead has been rushed to hospital following a crash moments after she won the first stage of the Women's Tour in Aldeburgh.
Armitstead, 26, lifted her arms to celebrate the victory but caught an onlooker as she attempted to place her hands on the bike again.

Paramedics treated the Boels-Dolmans rider before airlifting her to hospital. In her absence, Armitstead's team-mates collected the winning jersey on the podium on her behalf.
While the seriousness of the Commonwealth champion's injuries remain unknown, British cycling have tweeted:
"Best wishes to Britain’s Lizzie Armitstead who has won stage one @thewomenstour but has crashed after the finish line."

The overzealous American runner on Saturday celebrated a few seconds too early during the 10-kilometre AJC Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta.
Only steps away from victory, Payne turned on cruise control and at the finish line was narrowly passed by British Olympian Scott Overall.
Organizers declared Overall the winner hours later.
The epic gaffe was captured by broadcaster NBC and has since gone viral.

An American distance runner lost a bronze medal after one of those all-too-common cringeworthy moments in track events: She celebrated too early.

Molly Huddle lost to fellow American Emily Infeld in the 10,000 meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing on Monday — a moment she told Universal Sports (via NBC Sports) was “painful to watch.”
From NBC Sports:
“Emily slipped on the inside as I eased up a little bit. She had this once-in-a-lifetime moment. I feel like it kind of slipped through my fingers. … The Olympics are typically a hard race, not a tactical one, so this probably won’t ever come around again.”

Huddle joins a long list of runners who have celebrated their wins just a bit early including an Oregon runner earlier this year.

Kentucky took the lead with 11 seconds on that fateful day in November 2002. At that point, according to sports writer Scott Rabalais:
"Kentucky fans started jumping out of the Commonwealth Stadium stands, ringing the field. On the UK sideline, quarterback Jared Lorenzen doused coach Guy Morriss with a cooler full of water. A Big Blue upset seemed inevitable."
But hold the presses! The premature celebrating wasn't done yet. LSU used those last few seconds to try and make some magic happen. Apparently wasn't going to happen, though.
Time expired with a final shotgun snap. Kentucky fireworks ignited the end zone. Jubilant Kentucky fans climbed the goal posts.
Meanwhile, a Hail Mary pass was launched. Tipped. Caught. Danced into the end zone.
