Nevada casino revenues rose 11.5 percent in March, led by a 17.7 percent rise at mega- resorts on the Las Vegas strip, the state's Gaming Control Board reported on Tuesday.
Total state revenue rose to $930.3 million from $834.7 million, while the Strip saw its win -- the amount of money kept by the casinos -- rise to $465.4 million from $395.5 million. Las Vegas casino operators have reported consistently strong business from locals and tourists as the city grows and signs of a pickup in the economy sent tourists and conventioneers to the gambling city.
North Las Vegas and the Boulder Strip both showed double- digit gains, reflecting a strong locals market as well. Downtown Las Vegas showed a 10.9 percent decline during March, when one city icon, Binion's Horseshoe, was closed.
Reno-dominated Washoe County, facing rising competition from tribal casinos across the state border in California, saw a 0.44 percent rise in revenue to $85.7 million from $85.3 million and South Lake Tahoe's win rose 5 percent to $26.7 million from $25.4 million, the Control Board reported.
