I would take a short position in any gambling stocks at the present time to hedge my career, before buying any.

i heard neteller is being sold to the paypal/ebay group and thats why i assumed it was down

I also heard the same. With gambling becoming a problem in the US, Neteller may not want to deal with the headaches.

Why would paypal want to buy neteller?

Paypal just spent 5 years getting rid of gamblers.

A majority of neteller users already have a paypal account...

Obviously they would not, but why would you want to buy a company where that company caters to 90+% gambling clients...

It is not like if they buy neteller people are going to be like holy shit, I can use paypal on ebay

Sean,

Another option for a consumer. It's like Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc. This happens all the time in the business world.

Thanks.

First I need to declare an interest as I have owned $5k of this stock since january, along with $5k of William Hills which - unlike neteller - has been doing very nicely.

Neteller is up 35p today not that that bothers me as a long term investor. My average time period for holding a stock since I started in 1996 is 3 years, some I have held since 1998.

In the short term this stock is a punt on the legislation. Medium to long term it is very unusual for the market to ignore more trivial matters such as cash flow and profits. On these measures Neteller is a strong buy.

In my view it has a strong franchise. As a customer of paypal pre 2002, Moneybookers and Neteller then I can tell you Neteller in my view is the best for speed of funding books and CS when problems and delays arise.

not a good sign

Buy low, sell high :dancefool

It's usually good to fade the hype of the day, especially in the stock market. When stocks are taking a beating because of perceptions or news, they are a good buy more often then not.

the future of neteller is in the Asian market, they know that and have been expanding there, lots of people , lots of people that like to gamble there

that's how they are trying to diversify and defuse a potential loss of business from the US

while they would certainly suffer if they lost their USA market they have other areas where they could (and already are) make advances

The U.S. government could go after Neteller like they have BOS. Neteller could have to pay fines equal to all their profits they made off US customers if the govmt goes after them. The government is on a warpath and they have went after credit card companies and western union in the past when they have knowingly done transactions to offshore sports books. Everyone knows neteller does business almost exclusively with offshore books. I see them in trouble.
From recent events with BOS, etc. I get the sense that there is something going on there. I would not touch their stock.

As long as Neteller's execs do not decide to land in the US they will be just fine...

BOS is cooperating because their CEO is in jail. You think any other exec in the business is ever coming to the US again?
