Just thought this might be of interest to some...I've noticed that NETteller now asks new clients for ONLY the LAST 4 digits of their SSN to sign up, NOT the whole number, which a lot of us are hesitant to give out.

Also, FYI, www.sportsbook.com , who in my opinion is an excellent book, is now using NETeller as a means to deposit and withdraw funds.

LMFAO?

Only the last four numbers?

Those are the digits that are hard to get. If they have your name and current address they can get the first five without a problem.

That's hysterical. I had heard that they had stopped asking for the full SS# and just assumed that they were asking for the first five, since it is so easy to get those on a person and could be used to correlate identifying info. Instead, they're asking for the last four, since they can get the first five any time they feel like it, and everyone feels like they aren't having their privacy put at risk by these shysters.

This is true. All they need is the adress and name to pull the first 5 numbers.

Hi,
I couldn't help but notice that you have the Statue of Liberty as an icon.
I live in Brooklyn, NY.
I'm live only 12 miles away from where the World Trade Center once stood.
I was just three blocks away when the Twin Towers went down.
I am as concerned as you are about my security and privacy...maybe more.
You have a perfect right to your opinion. And I respect that.
But, so do I.
I trust Neteller with my info and have done so for two years. I have NEVER had a problem with privacy or security and I'm sure I never will.

Please understand that I am not trying to be confrontational at all...just letting you know how I feel about how serious I take my privacy.

I am not trying to be confrontational towards yourself; if my tone seems ugly it is geared soely towards these schmucks at Neteller.

Consider this:

--> Neteller is one of, if not the, most widely-used online payment systems for sportsbooks.

--> Most people are really, hopelesly, totally ignorant about protecting their financial privacy.

--> At the Rx, the largest online forum for gamblers, the issue of Neteller requiring a SS# to open an account has been brought up numerous times over the last year or so.

All of the above are facts, just simple facts regardless of whether or not one sees phantoms lurking in the shadows or whatever.

Is it too much of a stretch to think that Neteller made this change in an attempt to quell users' concerns about giving out their SS#, while banking on the fact that the average "man in the street" has no idea that it is the last four numbers that are almost impossible to obtain? Most assuredly Neteller is aware, as a financial services company, which part of the SS# is easy to obtain and which is not.

This is not to call Neteller evil, or immoral, or to make any accusation on them at all; merely to call them out on being tacky and insulting the intelligence of their users.

I have spoken to Colin Francis at Neteller and his reply to my question is:

the last four is all that the service provider needs to provide us with an identity match.

Why would we want to "lurk in shadows" etc, for clients entire SSN?

Please let me know when an intelligent question/comment pops up.

lanidar -- either yourself, or Colin Francis, or possibly both, are severely misreading what I write, no matter how many times I clarify it. Francis' response is to be snide without even fully understanding the concern; one more reason on an expanding list of good ones for me to not use their services.

You, on the other hand, use them all you like. That is the beauty of the market.
