I have been a long satisfied Neteller patron going back about three years now. This evening I tried logging into my account and received a message that my account has been closed. When I called to speak to a rep they said it was because I live in the State of Maryland and that all accounts there have been closed. Does this make sense to anyone? When I asked about the circumstances they simply said it was a "corporate decision" without offering a reason. Please correct me if I am wrong, but Neteller is a Canadian company, so why does the State of Maryland or customers from there create an issue for Neteller to close accounts. Just looking for a common sense answer. Anyone else had such an experience ?

i didnt know they had closed maryland accounts, but for about 6 months or so now they have been stopping some types of transfers for maryland residents. it has something to do with maryland wanting them to register as a "western union" type company.

i live in maryland as well. it sucks.

RPM..

Thanks for the reply. Last fall I was instructed that they would not longer accept deposits from Maryland, but my account remained open and I have been able to use it for transfers and withdrawals. Now they won't even let me log on. I'm hoping that individual account holders have not been singled out. Other Marylanders out there should try logging in to their Neteller accounts and report back whether they were successful or not. You're right RPM...Maryland sucks big time. Neteller reps are telling me it is the only State where they are closing accounts at this time. Time to move I guess.

know anyone that lives in another state? you could always open a bank account with their address and set up a neteller account with that info.

I find the situation to be truly sad. The irony is that Maryland calls itself the "FREE STATE". What could be further from the TRUTH !!

Your right, Itchy, mine is closed, too. Jeez, this sucks. I am getting so tired of this B.S. we gotta put up with just to do what we want with our OWN MONEY!

RPM...Wrong, I have considerable funds there. If only Neteller had sent me an email with a 1 hour notice, I could have cleared it in a flash. The service rep I spoke with confirmed my balance, but funds were unavailable for transfer. I was simply offered an option for complete withdrawal. Hopefully more answers can be had in the morning.

Shrink...Thank you SO MUCH for looking into this. I hope you can learn more than we've been able to at this point.

Besides books going broke this is probably the most important news that the offshore industry has seen in a while. I am surprised that there has not been more alarm to this thread. If the other states start to follow then Neteller is done and many books won't have ANY way of getting funds from customers.

Other States will follow. But the BOOKS will find other options, they always do.

There are plenty of other options for books. It is idiotic for them to have allowed the industry to become dependent upon a bank-linked service such as Neteller, no matter how gaming-friendly they are. Services such as e-gold and WebMoney are not quite as convenient to use due to the inability to directly transfer in and out of one's bank account, but because they are truly stand-alone services independet of the banking industry in any country, they are able to stand on their feet when it comes to issues like the state of Maryland is causing for Neteller.

It is not Neteller's fault, mind you -- it's the banking industry and state governments' fault. But regardless of this, the only long-term viable answer for books is going to be to switch to systems not linked into the banking system in any way.

I realize this is not Neteller's fault, but I can't understand why they could not have given some advance notice, like a week or something. They haven't even sent out an email telling customers their accounts are closed.

Btw, RPM, my account was not empty either. I haven't called yet to see what is being done with the balance. I would think they would send it to my bank, but I never assume anything anymore.

this is very sad...If I recall this has been going on for some time now since last year I think. MD has always given neteller a hard time. Good thing is, I guess no other states have followed YET

but this is bullshit for MD residents , my condolenses

It's all about $$$

Recently i've been stiffed by an online casino and i tried to get my deposit back. They just ignored and gave excuses why they couldn't help.

These were the fine folks like Kellen@neteller.com. JJ@neteller.com, etc.

When i had a double deposit go through to a book they wouldn't even help either. Insisting i'd have to talk to the book and most likely pay the fees.

They are asshole sacks of sh*t, but a necessarily evil.

That is life.

Guys,
This is just the beginning! Feds can't touch overseas action but they can make it difficult to send and accept funds here in the US! Constant transactions to any forign country is a red flag and trust me the feds will make it harder and harder to move money around in the future! Maryland and more to follow! Also PrePaid ATM will be targeted next! The only solution is not to keep any significant amounts of money in any of these transfer places or else you will lose the funds in the future!

Anyone read anything as to what % of Neteller's accounts are from the US?

I have to think that Maryland will not be the sole state in the US where this happens. Hope I am wrong!
