If you want to buy something and you contact the seller and they tell you to meet them to look at the item, is it then ok for them to tell you they have other interest and if you offer, they may not accept?

I mean, I guess it's fine, I get it but if I'm selling something, a guy comes and looks at it and they offer a fair price, I'm selling it to them.

I know, I know, they want a bidding war. I'm not interested in that.

Well yeah, it's okay in that we are presumably in agreement that this is a 'free market' where the proposed seller has not preemptively bound himself to deliver the item(s) immediately upon having his advertised price accepted.

It is a bit dickish to amend the proposed sale price at the moment you describe if it has not been presented as "For Sale - Best Offer".

Okay, now the Big Reveal....what are you hoping to buy, what was the stated sale price and how much do you think he is trying to jack you up?

So, I contacted the seller and said, "I'm interested, let's meet tonight." The seller says "well, it's in storage and there are no lights so it will have to be tomorrow." I said "yeah, no problem." The seller contacts me an hour later and says "just so you know, there is other interest now so we reserve the right to ponder your offer."

I responded...said "I understand your predicament but I'm not interested in getting into a bidding war. Best of luck to you."

Sounds like you let your pride get the best of you

You still may have been able to get it at the original price if you just went there.

Worst case and you just leave without buying.

Price was never discussed at all.

I dunno in my opinion if i want to sell something, that means i want to get rid of it in a timely manner.

I don't have the time nor energy to be taking offers for a while & wasting other people's time as well.

More than likely he was just trying to play you and/or starta bidding war as you originally thought.

He could easily make up ppl & claim they've offered more than you...

He could be saying that just so 1) u dont make some crazy low ball offer and 2) you make an offer higher than what he wants. He's being a dick trying to have "leverage" over ya

Ask what the lowest he is willing to accept. Then pay that. Anything else is a complete waste of time. Go to a store. Whatever it is, it isn't that hard to find.

Thats a great question man. It came off to me as an enormous Red Flag as well, that word "ponder" there, some trickery afoot no one says "ponder". Unless they're up to some shyt. I'd say Psycho Killer though? Prolly lures him to that darkened storage shed but theres maybe cameras...if theres no cameras there then absolutely at the least...robbery. Psycho Killer about +680 by my reckoning, Guy who is simply trying to be "slick" (pictures himself as a great marketer when he says "ponder") and get the most money he can from his thing -1100, Veteran CL Seller who has had run-ins with potential buyers when he has refused their trying to lowball him (as many CL Buyers do) so figures saying "ponder" will establish in advance a path for him to escape a too-low offer (gracefully) -1700, Gay Guy -240000

Gay Guys say "ponder" British Guys say "ponder" A few East Indian Guys say "ponder" if they went to school in UK.

Thats all the people who say ponder.

Non-one of those says "ponder" he is up to no good.
