So, I was the organizer for a recent event that involved many people.
I'd been planning the event for quite some time and included events over a three-day span. I had three other people helping me organize and plan. This was not a money maker in any way so the budget, as you can imagine, was limited to what people paid us for the events.
When we were deciding on where we wanted to hold the Friday event roughly six months ago one of my fellow organizers recommended a place that would serve as a meeting place for everyone and it allowed food, beers and entertainment etc. When he brought this event location up I asked how it would be paid for and he kept telling me not to worry about it "it would be taken care of."
We decided on a Saturday and Sunday event and all was good.
Fast forward to Thursday before the event. I get a call from this guy who says because he booked and paid for this Friday venue he told me wanted to give a "business presentation" for roughly two minutes. He wasn't going to try and sell anything but wanted to sign some people up for something. He felt since his company sponsored this Friday event, he felt this was the least we could do for him. I thought it was odd but he had me by the balls so I thought "what could it hurt?"
We arrive Friday night and he proceeds to get stoned and says to me "hey, this venue is too loud for my presentation, we'll do it tomorrow night." I told him "the venue tomorrow is not the place (formal dinner) and you can do it Sunday." He agrees. We have fun at the Saturday no big deal and all is good. Come Sunday, he doesn't even show up and I show up 90 minutes into the deal and figured his business partner either gave the presentation or would do it when they wanted.
Later that night, I get at least five text messages from this guy and he is furious mad at me. Talking about how pissed he is and felt I didn't want to give the presentation at all, how I came to him looking for charity and simply used his company for money to get the Friday event done for free.
I actually thought he was joking and asked him if he was being serious. I assure you, he was not. He went crazy on my ass.
Did I do something wrong in your opinion?
