Aloha Gang. I was asked by my brother to put together some sort of SB betting pools that he and several buddies wants to run. Problem is I know of one type, as I dont play these kind of things. The one I know of is a block type pool where the last digit from the score at half time and game are used to represent the block number which someone had paid anywhere from $5-$20 per a block.

Because this type of block pool betting is used by almost everyone here. I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar type of pool betting, but different. I heard that were all kinds. But like I mentioned, I have no idea about them as I never play them.

If anyone can share in detail how to run it and what are the rules to them. I would greatly appreciate it. BTW, since several people will be incharge of conducting the pool, how is it that they get compensated for their efforts. Aloha CC.

Last year I put together a sheet with a variety of props...what team will score first, pick the winner vs spread and total for first half and game, will first TD be a touchdown, who will have more receiver yards, total number of FGs, etc. There were bonus questions for stuff like coin flip and game MVP.

Each question was assigned a point value (picking the winner vs the spread was worth the most, guessing the coin flip was worth almost nothing). This kept people in the game even if their team was being killed, as they knew that there were a variety of things they could get points for. Seemed to work OK for me.

Another possibility is a fantasy football-type contest. Each person can pick one QB, one RB, one WR, one TE, one kicker, maybe some more players. They get points depending on how those players so. I think the "webcasts" of MNFon abc.com did something like this

As far as compensation, I would probably just offer free entries. It is traditional for the winner of a big pool to give back 10% to the organizer, but I am not a fan of skimming off the top (I will take it if offered though)

Drunk, thanks for sharing what you did. I have a question for you. Do you think that if I was to give people a list of props they could chose from, and run it like a parlay type of bet. Do you think this would work or not. I hardly play props bets so I wouldnt know the difficulty in one hitting the parlay using props with the spreads. What do you think. Thanks.

Anyone else, please share you opinions or ideas

if you are running a pool, not sure how you would do that. The way I did it was the "Easiest" way I could think of...I think I had prize for first second and third place. I'll see if I can find the spreadsheet, but I probably tossed it right after the game...

YOU could use the same type of block system, but pay on every score change instead of only paying at the end of quarters.
