I am doing a study of upset potential in college football. In doing so, I am attempting to identify the perennial power houses.

So far, I have:

Michigan
Penn State
Ohio State
Texas
Texas A & M
Oklahoma
Nebraska
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Tennessee
Georgia
Florida State
Notre Dame

What other programs should be included and why? Should any of the programs listed above be excluded and why?

Thanks,

Not sure if you can consider ND a perennial powerhouse these days. And if you count alabama you should probably count schools like wiscky and iowa

One big miss was va tech.

Perennial power, by my definition, is a program that is traditionally in the top ten and has very large following.

The almost made the list teams for me were:

Miami
V-Tech
Wisky
Clemson
Washinton
USC

1.) Miami's home attendance is pathetic. They simply have no fans. I anticipate that over the long haul this program will eventually go back to where it was before schnellenberger came along due to pathetic home attendance.

2.) V-Tech hasn't been powerful long enough to make the list. If we're going to inlcude the Hokies, we would also have to include Kansas State and I just don't see K-State as a perennial power house. I remember when KU and KSU tied and each program was 0-10-1 that year.

3.) Wisky hasn't been powerful long enough to make the list.

4.) Clemson has a tremendous following, but they just aren't consistently in the top 25.

5.) Washington is consistently a high ranked team butmy gut says this just isn't a perennial power house program. For whatever reason, maybe the press, I just don't respect Washignton's football program like I do the programs listed above.

6.) USC doesn't fill the stadium when the program is down.

Penn State draws 110K to every home game. I know they are down the last few years, but there is no way this program will continue to muddle through mediocre season after season much longer.

The 110 at home games will ensure the program gets highly touted recruits.

MIAMI, FLA and IOWA are the two biggest omissions on his list.

Even though Fish would have listed Iowa even if they were 0-30 the last 3 years, I still agree with him. Iowa is a legit 1-A marquee football program.

Books best friend,

You obviously have a bias towards SEC and Big 12. But if you are talking perennial powerhouse, Southern Cal (in case you thought USC stood for Spurriers latest Home) has always been one of the top programs in the nation not to mention a couple recent national championships. i also dont think there is a coach or sportswriter aroubnd that would not consider the Hurricanes a one of the year in year out powerhouses these days.
