Same thing happened to me about a week ago. White smoke out the back. I need a new head gasket.

Water is leaking into the cylinders and causing it to get heated leading to steam. That steam is forced out the exhaust in what appears to be white smoke.

A lot of times this is caused when a car overheats. It damages the head gasket and sometimes the head is warped and needs to be refinished.

yippee!!! i diagnosed the problem, how much did it cost you?

Maybe try to dump the car on Carmax ? Perhaps get your money back, and buy something else ?

very good idea. there is a product made that will cure a blown head gasket and often a cracked head if minor. you throw it into the radiator - only problem with that is it welds the head to the block and also the karma factor cause the new owner is getting fuced.

and the water pump failing can be what led this, so it may need both ( I believe).

I think you're also supposed to replace the thermostat ( cheap and easy) when doing the radiator.

I think that stuff is more meant to plug a small leak in the radiator, but it also clogs up the fins and stuff.

Carmax would wholesale the car out, and it probably goes to Mexico or somewhere. It's their problem then, I wouldn't sell it some buyer on Craigslist or something like that.

When you buy it wholesale, it's your risk. A 10 year+ old car is a risk.

Sodium Silicate? Is that what you are thinking?

It is used for waterproofing concrete. Ive used it. It seals well. But if you use it, get rid of the car.

that kw product is VERY good...used to sell it. I'd try it first. was not what I was talking about...just drawing a complete blank right now, don't remember if it was marketed as non-automotive or not. Worst comes to worst slip the salesman at the corner used car lot a fifty spot and he should know - hell he'll prob sell it to you

I haven't had it fixed yet but the mechanic got a couple quotes and they said $1700. I just might use that blue-devil stuff instead.

My friend's dad was a mechanic and used some of that stuff in an old beater car of mine. He made me swear to never tell anyone he used it in the car. If anyone found out his reputation wouldn't be very good. He didn't do that to newer cars. Just old beaters.
