“It appears that the selfish interests of a few schools and conferences prevailed over the best interests of future potential student-athletes,” WSU coach Mike Leach said in a text message to the Seattle Times. “The mission of universities and athletic programs should be to provide future student-athletes with exposure to opportunities, not to limit them. It appears to me that some universities and conferences are willing to sacrifice the interests of potential student-athletes for no better reasons than to selfishly monopolize their recruiting bases.
“I will be fascinated to hear any legitimate reasoning behind this ruling.”
I didn't want to be the first to piss on Harbaugh, but I agree he's the catalyst on this ruling. Not only did purposely try to ruffle feathers, then he dumped a bunch of committs afterward.....I was surprise that the big 12 voted against....though that was probably texas leading its sheep.
Satellites camps have been pretty vital to Okie State's rise. They basically pioneered it under Gundy. It's going to hurt everyone outside talent hotbeds, but it's really going to hurt schools like Wazzu in less than ideal locations. And the lesser the brand name, the worst. That's why Leach isn't very happy about it. I'm not really sure why this has suddenly become a big deal with Meyer and Harbaugh using them. OU has been using camps for the last 2 years. I don't know about anybody else, but this is a bad ruling for the kids. Less exposure to coaches who may not otherwise see them.
They really benefit a school like Nebraska because of it's geographical location. That's why Leach is so pissed. Wazzu is a very hard place to get to for your average poor recruit who would have to fly in and take a long bus ride to the campus. Something they can't afford to do in the first place. The only way they would know anything about Leach or that school and their system is to meet Leach through the satellite camps.Just one year was great for Nebraska. They got one of the top QB's out of California last year because of it, and a commit from another this year, though there are other strong tangibles above the camp excuse on #2. But both were at the camp and were huge at being able to evaluate them and start a relationship.
These camps and holding spring practice in other states are complete bullshit and anyone arguing for it is full of shit.
This is a have's vs. the have not's.
The NCAA regulates how big a schools media guide can be and how much space can be dedicated to each player - for fairness and to prevent one school from having a recruiting advantage over another school that can't afford a mega-media guide. But it's okay to pack up your entire team and go to Florida for a week to practice?

No, your wrong Clover. There's a reason why the national championship has been limited to just 12 different schools in the last 30 years. Geography and tradition. No amount of recruiting can beat those two advantages. Plus it's not 1984 anymore, the last time a non traditional school won the NC (BYU). Ask BYU how hard it would be to do that now. BYU has no tradition or beaches. How good of a recruiter do you think it's going to take to overcome an Alabama? And that goes for the great majority of schools. It has nothing to do with laziness..Be realistic.Guess I just an old traditionalist...practice at home.
Get off your ass and recruit better than your competition.
Good coaches do and Good coaches survive.
