NBA Rule for advancing the ball

It would be equivalent to the NFL allowing a team with a timeout remaining with under 2:00 left the game to move it from their own 20 to the other teams 20.

Then please explain what you would compare it to. You don't have to make an effort to move the ball forward without being defended.

So how would that be any different?

i dont know enough rules in other sports. i know the football rules though and the two arn't even comparable.

Agreed. Awful rule. It violates the "physics" of basketball. Not to mention common sense.

But hey, it increases the odds for a buzzer-beater and ESPN highlights. And fannnnnnnntastic finishes! Who cares if you destroy the integrity of the sport.

Your comparison is a bit drastic (60 yards in football). But overall, you're right.

Probably would be 10-20 yards in football.

In baseball, imagine if teams were allowed to start the 9th inning with a runner on 1st base.

When I was a kid, I used to watch EVERY NBA game on TBS and TNT. Now, I can't stand the pro game. Stern has twisted the game. It isn't true basketball. It is an entertainment circus.

College hoops. So much better than NBA.

I was about to post a question asking about the same rule. Is it only 2:00 left in the game or OT? I always wondered why teams didn't call time out before the end of the half to get it moved up the court.

Is that the case?

The reason the comparison is invalid is because of the value of points in the NFL vs the NBA.

spot on with this analysis. nba is just after your money. phantom fouls all game long, poorly run offenses, teams/players taking entire games or half games off, thug image with loads of tats everywhere, crooked officiating, overall just a boring product to watch.

the worst for me are the phantom fouls, makes the sport no better than WWE. these are six and seven foot physical specimens and most of the time when they drive the lane people swat AT them but don't HIT them yet tweety bird give them two shots from the stripe. it's comical.

i dont mind advancing the ball. it does make the endings more captivating which is good from a tv perspective. my gripe with timeouts is there are too many. games get too drawn out at the end. its not anything i i lose sleep over though.
