We should get more word about the status of the X-rays taken on his ankle fairly soon, but this doesn't look good for him. Look for Leon Powe to be a strong play until Kevin Garnett returns, and possibly beyond.

Kirk Hinrich - G - Bulls

Kirk Hinrich expects to play against the Heat on Monday despite a bruised quad that kept him out of Sunday's practice.
"[Hinrich] has got a pretty big bruise, and he's really stiff," coach Vinny Del Negro said. "[But] if Kirk can play, I know he will." Mar. 9

Rajon Rondo - G - Celtics

Rajon Rondo (sprained ankle) is aiming to return against the Heat on Wednesday.
"It wasn't that bad," Rondo said of the injury he sustained Friday night. "I'm planning on [Wednesday]. I'm getting treatment." An earlier report on NESN.com suggested that he would miss 7-to-10 days, but (fortunately) that now sounds overly pessimistic. Mar. 9

Kevin Garnett - F - Celtics

According to Celtics coach Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett (knee) will return "no earlier than next Sunday, but [it could be later]."
Garnett isn't ready to practice yet, and all he would say on Sunday is "I'm hurting." Keep him benched and hopefully we'll get some positive updates during the week. Mar. 9

Fantasy related but great info.........

Wired for Week 20
Hey everyone. We're hitting the home stretch with just five full weeks left as we enter Week 20. Everyone plays three or four games this week and you should keep in mind that the Bulls and Suns play five times in Week 22, while the Jazz go five times in Week 23.

Guards

Shallow Leagues: Eric Gordon, SG, Clippers

Gordon should not be available in any league, yet I still get emails from people asking me if they should cut him. In case they didn't listen to me and dropped him, you should pick him up. He scores, hits threes and does a little bit of everything. I shouldn't have to even mention him in this column, but I would not be surprised if he has been cut in a few leagues. Hopefully yours is one of them. The Clips play three games this week.

Others to Consider: Aaron Brooks, J.R. Smith, Anthony Parker

Brooks has been up and down, and has also been on this list for a few weeks. He scored 30 in his last game and is playing fairly well on Sunday. Smith is now the starting 2 guard for the Nuggets and should be solid the rest of the way, while Parker has been playing better again for the Raptors. He had 16 points and seven assists on Sunday.

12-team Leagues: Thabo Sefolosha/Damien Wilkins

Unlike Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, Sefolosha returned to action on Sunday and started. As long as Thabo's healthy, Wilkins shouldn't have fantasy value, but he did score 18 points in Saturday's game when Thabo was out. Sefolosha will take a bit of a hit when Green and Durant return, but should still be owned as long as he's starting. Whether you start him for your team or not is your call. The Thunder play just three times this week.

Others to Consider: Rashad McCants

McCants has scored 20, 17 and 12 points in his last three games and is getting some run for the Kings. He'll hit threes, grab some boards and steal the ball as well, so give him a look if you need the treys.

Deep Leagues: Eddie House, PG, Celtics

Rajon Rondo missed Sunday's game with a sprained ankle and may or may not miss a couple more. If he's out, House will probably start after the Stephon Marbury disaster on Sunday. House is probably more of an insurance pick up as opposed to a guy you'll want to start, but if your wire is real thin, give him a look.

Others to Consider: Luke Ridnour/Charlie Bell, Marco Belinelli, Mickael Pietrus, Antoine Wright/Jose Juan Barea

Ridnour's minutes are a huge concern, but he did have 17 points, four boards, five assists and two steals in his last game in just 20 minutes. He's risky while getting just 20-25 mpg, but is still worth a look in deeper leagues. Bell disappeared from the Bucks' rotation for a couple games, but had 16 points, five boards, three assists and two threes in 39 minutes of his last game. Like Ridnour, he's risky, but could have a nice week if he gets 30 minutes a night. The Bucks play three times in Week 20.

Belinelli has started seven straight games and scored in double figures in four straight, hitting seven 3-pointers over that stretch. Who knows if he'll continue to start for Nellie, but he's worth a look. Pietrus has a chance to regain his starting job over Courtney Lee soon, so just keep an eye on him. With Josh Howard back on the shelf for Dallas, Wright and JJB are going to get some additional minutes and could have a couple big games if Howard is out. Wright started and had 16 points, five boards, three assists, four steals and a 3-pointer on Saturday, and looks like he could start all week if Howard is out with his left ankle problem.
<!--RW-->
Forwards

Shallow Leagues: Rasual Butler, G/F, Hornets

In four March games, Butler is averaging 19 points, six boards, a steal, a block and two threes per game. He shouldn't be available in any leagues, but might be out there in a small one.

Others to Consider: Ronnie Brewer

Brewer has been out of his mind for the last month or so, averaging 18 points and over two steals per game in February and March. He won't hit many threes, but is a steals machine and won't hurt you anywhere. Again, he shouldn't be available in your league, but you never know. The Jazz play five times in Week 23, which would be a great time to own Brewer.

12-team Leagues: Leon Powe, PF, Celtics

With Kevin Garnett out another week and Glen Davis spraining an ankle on Sunday, Powe should get minutes and possibly a starting gig for the week. He could go on a double-double tear and might be a sneaky play in deeper leagues. The Celtics only play three times this week, but Powe could start in all of them.

Others to Consider: Anthony Randolph, Carl Landry, Danilo Gallinari, Travis Outlaw, Kyle Korver, Andres Nocioni

Randolph should get plenty of minutes going forward for the hapless Warriors, but his minutes and production bounce around like they're in a bingo ball hopper. Landry is suddenly relevant for Houston and has hit double digits in three of his last five games, racked up four steals on Friday and four blocks on Sunday. Gallinari played the fourth quarter for the Knicks on Sunday and scored 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers in 25 minutes. If he can get 25 mpg from Mike D'Antoni, he's worth owning. This was just his fourth game to play over 20 minutes, but I think he's going to start getting around 25 per game, while Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler, Chris Duhon and Al Harrington could be the victims of his emergence.

Outlaw contributes in nearly every category, including threes, blocks and steals, and tends to excel in scoring and rebounding. Korver is suddenly coming on with Andrei Kirilenko struggling, and has hit double digits in scoring in four of his last seven games. He's always a nice source of threes, but can also crash the glass and score if the minutes are there. Andres Nocioni started over Francisco Garcia on Sunday and got off to a very hot start. Kenny Natt said he wanted to start Nocioni, but then backed off the comments later. And of course, after backing off, decided to make Noce a surprise starter on Sunday.

Deep Leagues: Chris Andersen/Renaldo Balkman, PF, Nuggets

With Kenyon Martin out indefinitely with a back injury, both of these guys should be watched closely. Andersen was in many lineups this week, but was fairly disappointing after playing very well last week. He's still a good source of blocks every time out. Balkman had nine points and 14 rebounds in his previous game, but isn't getting much run early in Sunday's game.

Others to Consider: Joe Smith, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Mikki Moore

Smith is averaging eight points and five boards in 22 minutes in each of his first two games with the Cavaliers. He'll probably hurt Anderson Varejao more than he'll offer value of his own, but he could be a sleeper if he gets between 20-25 minutes per game. Mbah a Moute exploded for 21 points, 11 boards and five steals over the weekend and has hit double figures in three straight. He's been starting at shooting guard and while I don't really trust him, is worth a serious look right now. Moore played just 14 minutes on Sunday, but could get some more run in the upcoming week with KG and Big Baby hurting.

Centers

Shallow Leagues: Marc Gasol, C, Grizzlies

Gasol is suddenly on fire, racking up double-doubles in many of his recent games and scoring like his bro. Recent lines include 18 points and two blocks on Sunday, 30 points and 13 boards, 20 points, eight boards, 10 assists in one, 17 and 14 boards in another, and 22 points and 15 boards on Feb. 25. If he's available in your league, pick him up.

12-team Leagues: Chris Kaman, C, Clippers

The German National Team dud is expected back from a foot injury on Tuesday. I'm guessing he'll be good for about 10 points, six boards and a block this week if he actually plays, but the Clips only have three games. I'm not picking him up anywhere, but he will be grabbed in most leagues.

Others to Consider: Nenad Krstic/Nick Collison

Krstic has been pretty solid recently and Collison is getting extra run with Durant and Green out. Krstic had 20 points, eight boards, two steals and a block on Sunday, while Collison had 12 points and 11 boards in the win over the Sixers. If you own Sammy Dalembert and can pick one of these guys up, do it.

Deep Leagues: Andray Blatche, F/C, Wizards

Blatche is starting to show signs of life again and had 12 points, two steals, a block and a three on Saturday, and has scored in double figures in five of his last seven games. He's not a must-start, but should continue to get run and also looks a lot better than Dalembert right now.

Others to Consider: Ronny Turiaf

I don't trust Turiaf under Nellie's watch, but he had 15 points, four boards and four blocks on Saturday. Of course, he totaled 21 points in his previous five games, but was dealing with an illness and is always susceptible to a DNellieP.

Davis "tweaked" his hamstring, but the Clippers dismal season (combined with a ton of criticism being aimed at him lately) probably led to his taking a game off on Saturday. Camby is taking antibiotics to combat his own ailments, and both players are questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Cavaliers.

Smoov Sailing?
I'm changing up the format of the injury report this week. The bigger names and analysis are included immediately below and the full injury report list is included at the end of the column instead of the beginning. Let's dive in, although the first player I'm tackling is not even injured.

News and Notes

Josh Smith was benched for the entire second half on Friday after getting into it (again) with his coach. He returned for a nice line on Saturday and is now saying all the right things. He wants to get back to being the "old Josh," which means he might also start crashing the boards again. Hopefully Mike Woodson got into it with him intentionally with hopes of lighting a fire under his immature star. So far, so good.

Banged Up In Boston

Rajon Rondo's ankle injury doesn't sound too serious, but Doc Rivers is so cautious with injuries, he could just decide to hold Rondo out all week. My guess is he plays on Wednesday, but I don't think I would start him if I owned him, as an earlier report guessed he could miss 7-10 days.

Kevin Garnett would like to play on Sunday, which is the earliest he'll return from a knee injury. Doc sounds like he'd like to hold him out for another week after that, so KG owners will just have to hope he plays on Sunday so you can get him active for next week.

Glen Davis went down with an ankle injury on Sunday that required X-rays. He was on crutches when he left the locker room and I think he could miss the whole week. Leon Powe looks like a very solid play this week with KG and Big Baby hurting.

Deng It

Luol Deng was originally thought to be lost for the season with a broken leg, but an MRI said otherwise. Deng then wanted some other opinions, apparently in hopes of being shut down. News broke that his injury wouldn't end his season, but now it's hard to tell what the truth is, as he still hasn't come close to appearing in a game. If you're hanging onto him, it's probably time to let go, but only if there's someone worthwhile available on your waiver wire. I would be surprised to see him play this week.

Quit Joshin' Around

Josh Howard sprained his left ankle on Monday, causing me to write some gloom & doom about him after he missed 11 games earlier in the year with an injury to the same ankle. He then showed up on Wednesday and had a very impressive line, which was shocking to me. He also tried to give it a go on Thursday, but sat out the second half because of more pain in his left ankle. He hasn't played since and will see a specialist this week, which is pretty bad news if you own him. I'm not going to cut him, but he won't be in any of my lineups this week. And the really scary thing about Howard and ankle injuries is he was listed as "day-to-day" for the entire time he was out with the injury last time. Yep, all 11 games worth.

K-Mart Hurting

Kenyon Martin's back problem has shut him down and he says he's not sure when he might play again. Cut or bench him, and look for Chris Andersen and Renaldo Balkman to continue to offer some extra value in his absence. Nene should also put up some big numbers as well.

Off the Bench

Allen Iverson could play through a back injury this week, as the world awaits to see how long it takes for this whole "off the bench" experiment to blow up in Michael Curry's face. Trading Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson made little sense at the time and makes even less sense now, as it's clear the Pistons are simply a better team when AI is in street clothes. Bench him until you actually see him play in a game. There are still rumblings out there that he won't finish the season.

Why Bother?

Monta Ellis apparently took his long personal leave in protest against the Warriors, for multiple reasons. He will supposedly be back with the team in time for their Tuesday game against the Nets, but who knows if he'll play in it? I would bench him until further notice and even consider cutting him if you want to. It still makes no sense to me for him to play another game this season, but I was also in disagreement with bringing him back when they did. He needs to relax and get healthy for next year.

Captain Jack

Stephen Jackson came out on Saturday and said that he and his teammates were going to fight until the end of the season and treat every game like a playoff game. This is great news for his owners, but we now just have to hope that Don Nelson plays along.

Danny Boy

Danny Granger could play on Tuesday, but is not guaranteed to even play this week due to a foot injury. If you own him, start him at your own risk. If I owned him and this week mattered to me, he would probably be on my bench if I had some other options.

L.A. Clusters

Zach Randolph's father died on Thursday and Z-Bo played on Saturday. He should be good to go the rest of the way.

Marcus Camby has "fluid on the brain," which they believe is a result of his ruptured ear drum/ear infection, which has also been causing him migraines. If Chris Kaman really is coming back on Tuesday, maybe the Clips shut Camby down for a week and let him get healthy. I started Camby in a big league last week and it killed me. He will be on my bench this time around, and maybe for the rest of the season.

Kaman sounds like a go for Tuesday if today's MRI goes well and I see him averaging about 10 points, six boards and a block once he gets going – if he can stay upright.

Baron Davis sat out Saturday's game with a hamstring injury. Owner Donald Sterling recently ripped the team after a 30-point loss to the Spurs and none of the players seemed to take too kindly to it. It's probably not a coincidence that Davis went down shortly thereafter, but I do expect him to play again at some point this season. I just don't feel comfortable starting him unless we get more news about him between now and game time.

The only good news for the Clippers is that Eric Gordon returned from his shoulder injury and went off. I think you have to play him in most formats this week.
<!--RW-->
Will Vince Play Through a Knee Injury?

Vince Carter went down in a heap last night with a right knee injury. If you were watching the game and own him, you may be in the hospital right now after suffering a heart attack, although he eventually popped up and played through the pain. The key will be to see how he feels today, but my guess is he will play this week. If I owned him, I would still probably take a look at my other options and think about benching him just in case he does sit out a game or two.

Thunderstruck

Kevin Durant doesn't sound likely for Tuesday, would like to play on Wednesday and says he'll definitely go on Saturday despite a severely sprained ankle. That's all well and good, but as far as I can tell, Durant hasn't even really run on the ankle yet. I love his positive attitude and there's a pretty decent chance he will play on Saturday, but I would also not be the least bit surprised if he's out all week. I don't think you can start him with the prospect of playing in just two games, and maybe none, but it's your call.

Jeff Green's back injury kept him out for the week and there's a chance he could play on Tuesday. In fact, it sounds like he is even expected to play in that game, so he might be worth a roll of the dice this week, unless you have a better and healthier four-game option.

Old Man Take A Look At Yourself

Greg Oden's knee injury is still a big mystery and there is now talk that he won't play again this season. He's been way more trouble than he's been worth and I think you can finally cut the cord once and for all this season and let him go. Hopefully he won't be injured his entire career, but we're certainly not off to a good start.

What's On the Manu?

Manu Ginobili could play this week or sit out another two. Who knows? I don't get the sense that Gregg Popovich is in any hurry to bring him back soon, so just keep him benched until further notice.

Marvin Williams - G/F - Hawks

Marvin Williams is questionable for Monday's game with a sore lower back, according to Rotoworld sources.
If Marvin can't go, Mo Evans would likely start in his place. If you were torn on whether to play Marvin or not this week, this could be the tie-breaking information. Mar. 9

hey Hache.. any word on Caron Butler playin tonight?

Caron Butler, returned to the Wizards lineup on Saturday, at Dallas after a 3 game absence. I'd be surprised to see him sit this one out, considering the fact that he just played on Saturday. He is not listed on any injury reports that I have been reading, and I think it is more than safe to assume he will play tonight. GL tonight Venom.

Luckily, the Nets have a few days off, as Carter likely would not have been able to play if the Nets had a game on Monday. He also hasn't really tested the knee, so he is still not a guarantee for Wednesday. However, it does sound like he'll play.

This is consistent with Bulls' medical staff's diagnosis, and there's a chance he won't play again this season. "[The injury] has to calm down and nobody can say how long that might take," said a team source, while adding that talk of surgery "is premature at this point." From a fantasy perspective, it sounds like it's time to cut Deng in favor of a promising free agent.

Hopefully we'll have an update in the afternoon, but we're not counting on it. Backup center Jarron Collins is also considered a game-time decision because of a stomach virus.

Howard and trainer Casey Smith will meet with a specialist to review the results of a recent test on his injured ankle, at which point we should know more about his status. Considering how long this injury has lasted, it's hard to be optimistic.

Peja Stojakovic - G/F - Hornets

Peja Stojakovic (back spasms) has been ruled out of Monday's game and is questionable for Wednesday. Julian Wright will get another start in his place.
Stojakovic has practiced on a limited basis for the past two days, mostly shooting, and coach Byron Scott said he might not return to the lineup until Friday or Saturday. Mar. 9 - 6:21 p.m. ET
